with this new technology (using wind) you can actually write on water
take a look (http://blog.scifi.com/tech/archives/2006/07/24/walk_on_water_p.html)
Researchers at Akishima Laboratories have developed a way to spell out words and draw pictures on the surface of a pool by using 50 wave generators. The generators create "pixels" in the water and combine them to create the letters

Damn that's cool!
One thing though,I can't quite see what's the use of it and who would pump all the money (probably a lot) in this kind of research. Unless they plan on using it for some kind of screen or anything, though that doesn't seem very doable IMHO.

Neat idea but what practical use would it serve really?

Great for movies, sure, but they could probably accomplish something similar/better with CGI ;)

As soon as my 8.6 million dollar mansion is complete, I'm going to get something like this for the 3x olympic sized pool so that everyone flying over at 40,000 feet will be able so read my messages!

That's pretty awesome...I think its just really for scientific progress though, I can't see any real practical reason unless you want some sort of really expensive "wow" factor.
