OK, so my passport is in the mail, and in exactly one month my butt will sit on a plane and relax for ten days with my girlfriend as we travel to Val Des Bois, Canada. Her father has a cabin in this itty-bitty po-dunk villiage. Here is a Google map link: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Val-des-Bois,+QC&ie=UTF8&om=1
So if you live near here, and have any idea's what I should plan on seeing or doing... let them loose. Fishing is right at the top of my list. Any advice welcome.

I was just about to say the same thing. It doesn't matter much what you do, as long as it's relaxing. This is one reason why you won't see me going on "vacation" with one of them tours sightseeing all day for a week on end. That's a more stressful situation than a relaxing one IMHO. Fishing would fall under the relaxing category so you'll be fine with that one ;-) Just go and have fun with your girlfriend, e.g. when you go fishing take a pick-nick with you. (kind of make a day out of it.)
I have but one comment if you will, on you planned trip.
Your on the Wrong Side of the Country mate!
The west is the best, even Jim Morrison said so.
Have a great time in Canada or whatever they call that half of the country. lol.
You come this way, I could plan a great vacation for ya.
Cheers.

I always regret how I forget to take my camera with me. Even if I take one, I forget to carry it out the door with me. This time I won't forget, since it will be my first time to Canada. My girlfriend and her family are from Val Des Bois, so I guess I will get to see some of the local sights as well as the larger surrounding cities such as Ottawa and possibly Montreal.
On a side note, I went to New Orleans in May last year right before it was destroyed. I bought a brand new digital camcorder, which lasted about 15 minutes before my girlfriend fubled it into the air and dropped it on the street. $500 for 15 minutes of pleasure in New Orleans... boy I've had better.

I gotta say, it's hard to argue that point... I've never been to the far eastern part of Canada, but Vancouver/Victoria are BEA-U-TI-FUL!!! I visited some friends there, and wow, it was great! The ocean air was wonderful :)

You must not be from the US. Without identification you won't be getting across the Canada/US border, they will refuse entry to try and keep terrorists out. I think you could still get into Canada, but you wouldn't be let back into the US... ;)
Of course there are still plenty of crossings between the US and Canada that still operate on the "honor system" only with no guards and can easily be found with some maps. Securing both the southern/northern US borders has been a major politcal topic, although nothing real has been done about it otherwise.

US folks don't need a passport to go to Cananda yet, that's coming though. My son just went up there last month. But you do need a type of picture ID and proof of US citizenship (spelling). Fro what I understand, Canadians do need a passport to enter the US.

Not only am I from the US....I'm a Border Patrol Agent. You don't need a passport to got to Canada. You also do not need one to return. If you claim U.S. Citizenship at a U.S. port of entry, the agents can not deny you entry in to your own country.
Now, if you do claim U.S. citizenship and it is found that you’re not...it carries a heavy penalty. False claim to U.S.C. (United States Citizen) will put you in the federal pen.

This is exactly what I told my girlfriend! But does she listen? NO!
So know I will just have to tour the world since I went and spent money on a passport.

Hmm, thanks for the correction then! I'd heard some stories towards this effect, but I guess they were off or I missed some key details... ;)

But soon any US citizen WILL need a passport to enter Canada, just as now it is mandatory for every Canadian citizen to have a passport to enter the US... The border patrol may not ask for it everytime, but it's required to have on your person just in case...

I guess passports are required since the first terrorist attack on Canada that happened a month or two ago.

I've never heard of that place, but it looks like the boonies, you better bring your shotgun along with your fishing rod, Das Capitolin, the moose flies can get pretty big up there!
I'm kidding of course, it doesn't look any more northernly than Montreal - which you definitely should visit if you have the chance. There's usually a ton of festivals there in the summer, maybe look around on the web for a list of festivals so you can pick a good day to go on. I don't live there, so I'm not the best tour guide, but if you liked New Orleans I don't see why you wouldn't like Montreal. :) It's a fairly happenin' place. If you like sipping a cold one while watching pretty girls walk down the street, well... :)
And Ottawa's nice, but besides a couple of museums... hm... Well the new War Museum looks interesting and pretty big, lots of WW II hardware, there's also an air museum with a couple of interesting planes. There's also the museum of civilizations. It looks like an upturned canoe. Hm, yeah. Canada, land of clear symbols... Anyways all the good stuff is in one spot so it's easy to see most things in a day or two.
...
And the official name for the west is TROC - "The Rest of Canada". 8-)

lol, you guys are too damned funny. Have fun on the vacation man, I just went to my parents in the boonies in TN, it was real nice to just relax. Western Canada and Alaska are definately locations I would like to visit at some point in my life. Love the wide open wilderness.

I've been to the Marble Arch (google it) up there in Vancover. I went to Seattle once in the service. We grabbed a rental car and ran up there for the night of partying. The rules in the Gentelman's clubs were much more lax up there.
In the U.S. the girls have a line that they are not allowed to cross once she has it all off. Up there, she can go where ever she wants. By the end of the night I had the shot girl drunk on her own shots.
I was much younger back then....ahhh, the good ol' days.

Ok, the first half of my vacation to Canada is over, and thankfully so.
Canada is very nice, and if it weren't for cold weather I would probably look at Canada as a future home. I will have some images to post as soon as I return back home.
The last three days of my vacation have been in Maryland. For those of you who don't already know, Hurricane Ernesto was downgraded to a tropical storm and is pounding my area directly.
I had a rough day today. Because of Ernesto we had to take a trip out to the docks and make sure the boats were not strung up too tight to avoid lifting the docks as the waters were rising. We all went well, and I was able to take a few nice shots of everything from beneath an umbrella, but when it came time to get off one of the boats there was a bit of a problem. The docks were getting water over the tops of them, and were only accessible in a few areas around the boat. I got off just fine, but as Emily jumped off she landed and accidentally knocked me off the finger pier and into the river. If the rain hadn’t already done a good job of soaking me, now I was completely submerged; and my brand new six day old Motorola L2 and Olympus D560 both became casualties. This all seems to be familiar, or maybe it is just getting old. Toping everything off was the hour and a half drive back to the house just to change out of wet clothes.
Lets hope I can fly out on time Sunday morning. I am already looking forward to the end of this "vacation".

Das, I'm sorry but once is sad, twice is just funny...
And Mark is right, you REALLY should invest in a waterproof, dropable camera! Or at least just waterproof, they make some good ones now...
Given any thought to calling the company up and explaining the situation, and seeing if they might be willing to give a discount or something on a new one, if not replace yours?
