Refer to this thread for my past request:
http://bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8987

Yesterday I received a "friendly reminder" notice in the mail about my duty charges. I have not heard anything from XFX support regarding this matter.

My Support Ticket is #59235, which contains all of the information from the original FedEx invoice:
http://www.xfxforce.com/web/support/...ticketId=59235

I will respond to XFX via my support ticket as well. If you could look into this ASAP, it would be much appreciated.

Even though it looks like any duty charges on any future contest winner is on their own lets hope XFX helps you.

I guess duty charges can get pretty high in some parts of the world, what ever happened to free trade.............

Yeah, whenever I've been charged an amount for Duty, it usually adds up to around half (or more) of the declared value of the item... I bought a mobo once for $175 from the US (which was a good deal at the time) but got dinged with a Duty charge of $80!!!! I wasn't impressed, that's for sure :(

Holy cow...$80 just for duty charge!!! That's crazy!!! :(

Yes, it SUCKED, and pretty much made my "good deal" disappear... at that point I ended up paying pretty much the retail cost of the mobo :(

I really hope you wan't be charged for the 7600GT's you've won in the last contest and also for the prize you've won in the contest that has just ended.

Man, it really sucks to "win" prizes nowadays, if you leave in Canada...:(

I really hope it will work out for you eventually...

Lets hope FedEx doesn't charge us Canadians for July contest. In any case it won't be much.

I dont get why people have to pay duty charges. The law states that if it is any kind of FREE gift there is no duty charges. If you dont pay for the contents of the package you are not suppose to pay Duty. (Europe)

Like you said, Europe, every country in the wourld seems to be a bit differant. I'd be nice if they were all the same, a nice free trade sort of thing.

Customs can pretty much charge you anything if the package isn't cleared for international travel. I have had "Gifts" that were still charge duty. I think it depends of the value and type of item in the package. Its like sbrehm said customs in every country is different on how they treat packages going through from another country.

Haha, "Free" trade... what a joke :(

In any case, xfxsupport has told me that my duty charges are taken care of. I'm just waiting on the confirmation message from my support ticket just to be sure ;) Thanks again to XFX for taking such good care of us :)

The old free trade agreement used to be a good deal, the last house I built in Colorado was super cheap as all the materials came from up in Canada duty free. Even with shipping and transport costs (2 semi trucks) I saved like 10 grand over the US prices. And the quality of materials was much higher (thermal rating) than what you can get here..............

So it used to work well when it was in effect.

HOLY SH*T sbrehm, you really made the most of the free trade when it was good! (I guess the exchange rate at the time really helped you as well ;))

Well, I personally think that is one of the reasons why they stopped free trade as it isn't good for the local economy :)
hèhè, cash eh, "I duno how it got into that guys pocket?! I swear!"

Free trade makes all those involved keep their prices fair (in both countries), I do know that after they stop the agreement some of the materials I used on a regular basis almost doubled, talk about getting screwed.

Yes, but there is this thing as unfair competition. Take for instance china. Their workers will do 12-14 hours a day for practicaly nothing. How can european/US companies compete with that? The only solution to keep things liveable for the european/US companies is to get customs on chinese products. However a lot of countries/the EU don't seem to get that that is the only way to protect the economy which is already crumbling.
