I found this very amusing site that takes you back to the early days of the commercialisation of the web.
Using the Internet Archive's "Wayback Machine" service, a bored student at MSU went to have a look at how companies such as MacDonald's and Lego chose to use this newly found Interweb thingummy to promote their brands. And failed miserably.
Here's the link:

You can also visit "Wayback Machine" site HERE (http://www.archive.org/web/web.php).
Have fun...

lol, pretty damn funny. I actually thought that Lego's website was the best of the ones he had listed. Its really amazing how commonplace websites have become in the last 10 years though.

Huh, what? I was on my fifth computer myself, and everybody I knew had either a Mac, a pc running Win95 or an Amiga. By 96 most people had had a Commodore 64 or an Atari for what, 10 years? :)

Talking about the average joe. I was almost the only one with a computer in my class in 1996. People were amazed by Windows 3.1 back then. I got the Internet 3 years later...

I was in that time too back when I thought a P66 was fast.

Amazed by Windows 3.1? No way, that never happened! :-D 3.11 maybe... But that was long before 1996. Maybe it's just the place you live in. I know I started using packet-switched networks (basically the Internet, but without the web) way back in 1988 in Sherbrooke. There were only BBSes in those days, but I'm pretty sure a sizeable population had computers in their homes. Everybody had access to computers at school, anyway. Ok, they were old Apple II's but everyone knew about them.
It's not like computers aren't more than 50 years old or anything. 8-)

yep, a lot of people had PCs then. In fact if I remember correctly that was the time of the "free pc" deals that were all over the place. The ones that required you to run ads all the time or visit certain sites etc.....
