I honestly don't intend for this to sound mean or upset you, but either English is not your primary language or you really didn't bother to read the FAQ here: http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9230

Q: It's been over an hour, and progrss is still 0 of 100000 steps. Is this thing working?
A: A project could take over 48 hours to complete all 100 steps (percent). The time depends on the power of your CPU, and how many other applications are running. Remember that the program "folds" only using available "idle" CPU cycles, so if you are doing other CPU intensive activities, this could slow down the folding process.
Q: So when will I see some points on the stats page?
A: You get points once you complete a project, and the points vary between projects (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummaryC.html). The stats page (http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_list.php?s=&t=41608) refreshes every four hours.
Both of these are very clearly answered in the FAQ.
OK, I am absolutly done helping you. Try reading the FAQ, and quit asking questions.
BTW: You keep posting questions elsewhere that are clearly answered in the FAQ.

Since darkorb made a Q&A thread I have a question.
Does it matter if I set "Request work units without deadlines" to "yes"? I originally had it set to "no".
After I reconfigured it to "yes" I kept getting that "My Client Is Dead" so I deleted the WU which sucks as it was at 95% argh.
Also what should I set "Allow receipt of work assignments and return of work results greater than 5MB in size" to? I don't know what this does but I currently have it set to "no".

Yes, it matters. You should have left this setting at "no", because it is for very old computers that may not complete a WU in the 30-60 day deadline.

Set this to "Yes". It is for low bandwidth connections that cannot download 5Mb in a timely manner.

Ah ok I gotta change the "Request work units without deadlines" to no then. I figured having to "yes" wouldn't matter since some of the WU with not deadlines give you some good points.

I got a question.
After I got it all set up and running like a top.....I can't recieve email. Could the program have done this or am I just having a problem with my email and it just happen to happen when I installed this stuff?

Are you using the console or GUI version?
What do you mean receive email? Do you mean you can't check your email?

i tried the client version and i did not like it. unless someone has some form of a program that can automatically run both instances at the same when the screen saver comes on i am going to just stick to the screensaver version.
also i got my first wu done. i have noticed that my opty is about twice as fast as my P4 when it comes to doing WU's.

CDU-Above, I don't see how F@H could be responsible since it only uses a little bandwidth when first DLing or Uploading a WU. It then does not use the internet connection again at all, so it should be something else causing the problem... ;)
Dukeman, it is recommended that screensavers be turned off if you run F@H, and if the screen isn't going to be physically switched off then to instead of using a screensaver, just set it so the monitor turns itself off but will turn back on when you press a key or move the mouse.
Werty, WUs without deadlines are supposed to generate less pointage than those with a deadline. It's in all of that info somewhere :|
The Athlon 64 uArch design has for a long time been the best CPU for folding (Until the Core 2 Duo), and the Athlon 64 X2 models were only twice as good due to twice the # of cores... ;) This should make sense when viewing the large disparity in performance between any Netburst CPU and it's AMD counterpart!

I'm just gonna tack my question on to this thread (and yes I did look all through the damn FAQ thread ;) ).
When running the console version, are you always looking at that console window when its running? Or can you close that and still have it running?

It wasn't causing it. I don't know what the problem was with Outlook at the time. The next morning both programs were working just fine.

I recommend that the console client be set up as a service. This way, there are no windows open since it will work in the background like all the other services. Sure, you don't have an open window telling you your progress, but there are text files that do that.
Install the console client as a service, CTRL-C to stop and close the existing open console client. Either restart the system or go to the Services manager and start the services.

Or you could just minimize the console window... ;)

When you open the console version it opens as a taskbar icon so just minimized it. Who wants to look black, grey, and white molecules?

Ok, thats what I was wondering....how you know its running when run as a service. Thanks. Now do I have to wait for the GUI client to finish this WU before installing the console, or would the console version pick up the current unit?

I think it would show in the task manager but I am not sure. I just open Folding@Home app like any other app and I don't have it as a service.
If you swtiched to the console verison it should just continue where the GUI version left off. Give it a try as it doesn't screw anything up.

Werty is right, it will show up in the tast manager. If you go to "Administrative Tools" -> "Services" and find the F@H client service listed, it will also state the current status of the service there as well.

ok... i don't know what is going on, but I can't seem to upload my results from the WU i finished. I connect to the internet through a local public wireless network... could that be my issue? I have no problems connecting to games etc. or even Limewire. anyone know what could be the issue?

They may be having sever issues again, as long as you can download a new WU just let it set in the queue and keep on working on the new one. The old one will get sent by it's self when your system can get the proper conection.

Yea it took 1 of my machines like an hour or so to ul results. Just forget about it. It eventually will transmit.

Is there anyway to download more WU's in advance? I won't be online for the next 3 days, but I can keep my computer running for those 3 days and was wondering if I could have it running something useful instead of nothing for 3 days straight.

Well, I had some problems too. This is like 20 times in my log:

[01:26:21] - Error: Could not transmit unit 00 (completed August 7) to work server.
00:26:57] + Attempting to send results
[00:28:09] - Server does not have record of this unit. Will try again later.
[00:28:09] Could not transmit unit 00 to Collection server; keeping in queue.

Once the WU uploads, a new one will auto-download and begin work. If you want to start another because one is not uploading, then you should setup another console version and run it at the same time.

That wu is not massive, it's actually relatively small
BTW, where do you see an ETA on that?

Well, as I'm curious, could you post the name of the project. So we can have a look at it in the stats page.
