I did a random search for watches on the internet and came up with some fairly out of my price range watches.... around the neighbourhood of $30k+ well I finally settled on something a bit cheaper

wow, that is a pretty sweet looking watch. I like the black. I gotta admit that is a pretty attractive watch for sure. So did you buy it yet or still shopping around? You know I haven't used a watch since I got my cell phone. lol.

I used to love collecting watches. Funny cause having something heavy on my wrist buggs me.
I must say that is a beautiful looking watch though..

Decent watch but you gotta get a stainless steal for the bling factor.

Thats a very nice looking watch. As for 30k plus... would suck if it fell off in the ocean or something  but if your that rich i suppose it wouldn't really matter.
I haven't worn a wrist watch in over 4 years.

Yeah... I bought that watch already... Got it for $80. The store had it for $100 and then had a 20% discount sale.
I really like it... and honestly even if I was rich I wouldn't buy a watch for $30k LOL

I would say its been about 2-3 years for me. I'm afraid to get a nice watch anyways since I tend to scratch the crap outta them.

Those are all some nice watches... $30,000 is a bit much for me though, so I went with the $30 model http://www.startfitness.co.uk/acatalog/Timex-Ironman%2030Lap-T53161.jpg (http://www.startfitness.co.uk/acatalog/Timex-Ironman%2030Lap-T53161.jpg)

How can some of you not wear a watch? I've worn one for so long that I feel "naked" there if I forget to put it on before I leave the house :?

The last time I wore a watch was the day I retired from the service.................;)
No need these days, if I need to know what time it is I just look at my computer ................:)

Yeah, I'll quickly notice if I forgot to put mine back on...
I read some article who knows where, that had posted some interesting results of a study done on watches. Apparently with everyone having cell phones, PDAs and whatever else a slight majority of the users polled had outright done away with or had stopped wearing their watches most of the time. I certainly won't be one of them!

yes... i feel the same way... i am way uncomfortable without wearing my watch. Here is a game for you... it's supposed to show you how against change most people are... if you do wear a watch, move it to the opposite wrist from what you normally wear it on. It will absolutely drive you nuts, atleast it did to me LOL

You're right about that, it even takes some time to get used to if you've never worn a watch. you're right about the fact you kind of miss something if you go out without your watch. It's weird how much people there are without watches eh. A lot of people have asked me how late it is :-D At a certain point some people at school started saying to those who asked what time it is "time to buy a watch". Thought that was kind of funny :)

You know I have actually been looking at getting one of those IronMan watches, thats mostly what I had through high school. The last watch I had I beat it all up and just never got around to replacing it, so I got used to not wearing it. As far as noticing when its not there, its not only watches. If I ever forget to put my wedding band on after taking a shower, it really feels odd without it there.

I hear you there as well... it was really awkward at first, getting used to wearing it, (as I've never worn any jewellery on my hands ever) but I'm so used to it now, it's just like putting on my glasses or watch :P
I gotta have three things on whenever I leave the house: glasses (blind without them), wedding band (would be put to death if I ever forgot it :)), and my watch :)

Well Timex is a decent brand. The first couple I had lasted long enough for a teenager ;) and were still working perfectly although the bands or the part where the band itself connects to the watch were finally broken off on each of them.
So far I rather like this specific Ironman model, although I didn't know they came in decent looking gray/blue colors besides black... The plastic display cover is recessed slightly on this one, which helped prevent quite a few extra scratches that I tend to acculumate in short order. ;) My last watch had that cheap issue where the contacts on the display would fail, so the display blanks out in segments but so far this one has held up just as long without that problem, and no issues with water either.

lol, aint it the truth, though honestly my wife forgets her wedding band far more than I do. I'm the same, except exchange the watch for a cell phone. But if I walk out the door without any of them...it just feels plain odd and bugs me the whole time.

cell phone is a completely different issue... I honestly can't stand my cell phone. I hate having to carry it around. I think the only reason I have it is for an emergency or finding my wife in teh mall. Between my wife and I we use about 100 minutes a month between us, not counting the free mobile to mobile.

same here...basically if my wife didn't want me to have one...I wouldn't. I actually didn't have one until I was assigned one to me by work for my last position (IT). After I moved on to another position I had no intention of getting one but my wife had gotten used to me having one and wanted me to get one so I did. Its not too terrible an inconvenience, but I kind of miss the days when you could walk or drive around without hearing the phone ring.

I quit wearing a watch 5 years ago. I used to wear a Timex Ironman in school. In college my wife got me a backwards running Goofy Watch by Lorus that I wore for several years. About 10 years ago she bought me a Dale Earnhardt watch which I wore until he died. I haven't found one I like since. I want something comfortable, light and not to big.
A couple months ago I bought a cheap Timex http://www.timex.com/bin/detail.tmx?item=048148485013
I am only about 160lbs and the face seemed to big. The watch also dug into my wrist and was quite irritating. I would really like to find a similar watch that is a tab bit smaller and more comfortable, but so far I haven't found anything.
I've been thinking about getting a pocket watch instead. This is the one I was eyeing.. http://www.seikousa.com/Product.aspx?productId=10
Although the Fossil site posted here does have a nice looking one with a black face...

I also do not carry a cell phone. On several occasions they mentioned me getting one at work and I have done great at dodging it so far.

You might get some interesting looks with a pocket watch... ;) I have to say I'd likely either lose it or drop it one to many times! Do they still come with chains to attach to something though?

They do, have a look at the link. Actually you're supposed to put it in the pocket in your shirt and attach the the chain to the button holes of your shirt8-)

Lol, mugging me would be about useless. I love my ATM card too much. 99.9% of the time I do not have a dime in my pocket. I use my ATM card religiously for everything from my favorite 99 cents Bacon Jr. Cheeseburger or 20 Mountain Dew, to shopping for electronics. The only time I carry cash is when we go on vacation or camping. As soon as campsites and many other vacation spots start taking my VISA check card I will swear off cash altogether.
I think $225 dollars is a small price to pay for a nice pocket watch. I would not be as quick to spend that much on a wristwatch, as I have a tendency of scratching up the crystals way too much. Come up with a scratch proof crystal and I would pay big bucks for a wristwatch.
I might be tempted for more than a second to pick up a stainless steel Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona if it wouldn't scratch. I love the style of that watch but I couldn't see spending $10,000 or more on a watch only to scratch it up playing with the kids or working around the house though.

A while back a family friend that owned a funeral home had a Rolex and we used to joke about stealing it...he said, thats ok, I would have another one in no time thanks to the insurance he had on it. lol, talk about tempting. :D
