my audigy 2 keeps resetting my speakers from 5.1 to 2.1. it does it about once aday. i have the newest drivers and have everything set up properly.
is there a registry hack or a program that can lock my speaker settings to 5.1?
any help would be great as i have been dealing with this over several fresh installs of xp.

Sounds like compatibility problems.

Does this happen when you computer is on or when you reboot? I have this problem everytime I reboot but then again I need to reinstall windows as I forgot to uninstall the nVidia drivers when I changed video cards whiched messed up Windows a bit.
Try uninstalling your sound card drivers and reinstall them to see if that helps.

i thought it was a compatibility issue as well so i uninstalled it and did a dcpro driver cleaner thingy. i have tried several uninstalls all with the same result.
as to when it happens it seems to be when certain games are played it sets to 2.1 and some times at bootup it randomly will reset.
when it resets it does it in windows/sound settings and in the creative program.
i know when it resets because it suddenly sounds like crap and the sound only comes out of the front speakers.

This sounds more like something not right in the game settings, have you checked that? (the game might be changing your config)

I know there is a bug when it comes to games and EAX support, sometimes when the game doesnt support EAX then the sound either dissapears or changes to other settings. So you need to update your EAX drivers or dissable EAX... I myself dont have any sound when playing WOW if EAX is on.

where can you just update the EAX drivers? i always that it was included in the creative driver.

As far as I know, EAX is part of the sound drivers because the sound card has to have the physical hardware to support EAX. I think he means did you try disabling EAX inside the game from the game settings?

well i uninstalled all my creative audigy drivers and then used driverpro to clean it. i reinstalled the drivers that came with the card and then loaded the openaleax tweak and all seems good for several days.
i hope this works.

There are seperate EAX drivers on the Creative website. Dont know what audigy version you have but here is the link for EAX update with the Audigy 2 ZS - (Creative EAX Console Update (Version 2.02.05) for Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS (4.24 MB) (http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?Product=4915&dlcentric=7523&Product_Name=Audigy+2+ZS&OSName=Windows+XP)
Hope it helps, :D

I had this problem with my audigy2 as well. When ever i restarted or if my computer locked up it would reset my speakers to desktop speakers. My problem was in sound properties. Even tho i set my speakers to 5.1 in the audigy settings it would revert to what ever the speaker settings were in control panel under sound properties, advanced settings, speaker settings. Once i changed it to 5.1 i went back into audigy settings and set it to 2.1 hit apply then back to 5.1 and hit apply again just to be sure. That fixed it pretty much tho i did have it reset to 5.1 every now and then after a nasty lock up. I cant remember but it also seems like there was a check box somewhere in the audigy settings that says something like sync speaker settings with control panel. Make sure that is checked as well. Hope this helps

To make sure you got all the latest progs, you can use Creative's AutoUpdate. You'll have to use iexplore (cough, cough), go on creative.com, support, SoundBlaster, etc. install an ActiveX control, it will tell you all updates that are available. The only problem is that some updates are for components that you didn't install so check before installing everything.
It happened to me before, but I don't remember what I did. I think I went thru every AudioHQ, multimedia or creative control windows and set 5.1 everywhere. If you don't have every components installed, some problems could come up. (Install everything about speaker settings) Finish with the THX console as every other setup assistants will override your settings.
