Sure you could put it in, but then it would cause all the other memory to run at the same speed as the PC2100 by default.
NOT A GOOD IDEA.

How much DDR400 memory are you using?

since you have a gig of ddr 400 512 more would prob make hardly any difference, and like sbrehm said it will probably slow down what you already have.
If you only had 256 and wanted to add a 512 that would be cool.

I would say stick with the 2x512MB DDR400 as an extra 256 won't justify the lower slower speed of DDR200 which all the sticks will run at.

Nope, don't use it or else, like everyone has said, ALL of you RAM will only run as fast as your slowest stick, which would be the PC2100 speed... and you have 1GB already, so stick with it or buy another 1GB PC3200 if you're really itching for it.

Also mixing ram can cause instability in some cases which is probably why it rebooted upon loading bf.
yeah its best to buy it in the "kits" with the pairs of 512 of 1g sticks
