I have a xfx7600gt. I notice the fan run at full blast during boot. I can use the rivatuner to slowdown the fan during usage but i believe it has no effect before windows is loaded.

Wondering is there a way to set the fan to run at 50% during boot or something.. or maybe a bios that has that setting set to 50%.

The noise generated by that small fan is almost unbearable at full blast.

Thanks.

There is an official XFX BIOS update that can be used on XFX 7900GT series of graphics cards, but I cannot say about the 7600GT series. XFX Support will be able to confirm if there is or not.

Rivatuner might be able to, however it would only work after windows loads. Same with http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php) or http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ATITool_0.24.exe (http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ATITool_0.24.exe). I would try those three, and if none of them can allow you to set the fan at a lower speed when not playing games then I don't think your card can be changed without a BIOS update.

Dear SHiGE, Unfortunately the cards BIOS is not fully in effect when windows boots and as a default all cards will run at 100% during the boot process then reduce speed once the drivers are loaded (Windows Load Screen). This is a safety measure to make sure the card is operating properly and to initialize the fan to properly cool the GPU. Even the fan fixes for the 7900 series cards have the fan at 100% during boot then slow once windows begins to load.

Chances are if you can't adjust it in the BIOS you can't control on bootup unless a BIOS update does so.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes i'm well aware the intention of the 100% during boot and the bios loading issue during boot. The card has no problem adjusting the fanspeed during usage and rivatuner has been working fine. Just wondering will we ever see a bios from xfx about the reduced speed at boot. Is rili rili very loud the moment you do a restart or start from a near silence mode before.

I would probably think the precaution steps is a too conservative. If the default drivers setting allow the fan to run at 33% during 2D mode, i don't see how a boot process will be more heaty.

Thank you.

If your computer doesn't take 5mins to load I think a few minutes of listen to a blow dryer is not a big deal ;)
