I Just got the XFX 6800xt AGP and it doesn't seem to be running up to snuff
with other's like it and the 6800gs series. My 3dmark03 gpu score varies between 6700 and 6900 points which seems to be about half of what it should be. I've installed the 84.43 drivers and the newer forceware drivers and there doesn't seem to be much change. New agp drivers for the board. And all the little tweaks that only marginally increase performance and i'm stumped. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

My specs:
P4 2.4ghz
1gb pc2700 ram
Coolmax 500w psu w/ 18a on 12v+
Asus P4S800 motherboard
Graphics card: XFX PVT42KUDE3 Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card ....to be exact.
Windows XP pro sp2

Dear Wheat, AGP cards are kind of specific in how they want things set up. The first things I would look at are making sure your mainboard is current with the latest BIOS and chipset drivers. Also use the latest drivers from NVIDIA T www.nvidia.com . Also check to make sure the BIOS is set up for the card correctly. Check the AGP aperature to reflect 1/2 of your system RAM or 256MB whichever is higher. then check the AGP port voltage to make sure it is set to either 1.5 or 1.8v and at 8x. These settings generally affect the overall performance the most. Finally I recommend checking the actual scores from a reviewers site like Tomshardware or HardOCP as these generally use real world testing and reflect actual performance. It seems that I can't change my agp voltage through this specific bios. I can't find settings anywhere in the manual. I will flash the bios and see if that helps. Perhaps trying an older asus supported agp driver might do something.

Dear Wheat, Please check with the motherboard maker for instructions on changing the voltage settings for the AGP port. It may be that your mainboard does not support this feature but they would know for sure. Also when flashing your mainboard BIOS be very carefull ot record your settings and create the recovery utility prior to flashing to make sure you can continue to use your system incase of a failure.
