id do somthing really radical, cant think what yet

Enigmachine

One word: Plaid.

Ok, plaid and radical aren't usually seen in the same sentence, but think about it, how many computers have you seen in plaid? :)

markkleb
08-19-2006, 04:46 PM
Plaid, lol..Mabye with some bagpipes sticking out the side..

I like how the Fan mounts have holes for air to pass (unlike the Aspire)

Also there is a lot of space to hide wires, sweet.

Also built in mobo standoffs. Have you seen the etched side windows sbrehm and them have been talking about?

In the front where the little door is for the USB/Speak-Mic. I would take that out and put a little temp display like the Qpack uses (I dont think they cost too much) They are 1 5/8" X 1".

Mabye 2 80mm fans or a 120 in front.

Looking forward to seeing it progress, the Lian-Li too.

markkleb
08-19-2006, 07:48 PM
Can the mobo tray be removed easily (without taking apart the whole case)?

If you can take it out and paint it seperate (flourescent) and Paint the rest either a flat or semigloss/satin black (try them both on a piece to see which you like better)

BigD
08-19-2006, 07:50 PM
after thought, painting everything inside plaid would take FOREVER and it would never get finished while i have school... so ill just paint the inside the colors of the plaid, then make a plaid front for the case

markkleb

Did use that Dremel to drill the fan holes? You must put put alot of pressure to drill a hole using a Dremel. I figured a power drill would be easier.

BigD
08-19-2006, 09:51 PM
nah its easy, just need a cut blade and a grinder (top smooth the edges) to cut fan holes, and my dremel does 35,000 rpm and has titanium coated drill bits so its easy to put in the screw holes

werty316
08-19-2006, 09:55 PM
So you didn't use the drill bit to make the holes? I have a Dremel 400XPR but never thought that it could drill through steel with the drill bit it comes with. I just used a Dremel for cutting, grinding, sanding, and polishing.

markkleb
08-19-2006, 10:09 PM
the secret to drilling is use a sharp bit and slow it down, at 35,000 rpm the bit will overheat and become ruined in a sec or 2.

That 120 is gonna look a lot nicer than a 80...(not to mention move a lot more air)

werty316
08-19-2006, 10:32 PM
Yeah I bought that case when Tigerdirect.ca had it on sale and hate that the intake slot uses a 80mm fan. Atleast the exhaust uses a 120mm fan.

BigD

Thats one of the great things about a $10 case or even an old one in the closet. Its a lot easier to cut them up than a $200 Lian-Li.

I really enjoy watching you work. Keep it up. And I wish I had a picture of ur face when you see the Lian-Li pieces all bright pink with the green and orange flowers....

wow, nice job, good cuts!

anway i gave it some thought, you should paint it zebra stripes, just whitewash the whole thing make some stencles and spray stripes, hese a pic i whipped up in good ol paint just now, im gonna do somthing like this, a kinda jungle/savana scene with zebra stripes over the top: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/rilt/untitled-12.jpg

or just do it plain zebra, like i did my bike: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/rilt/CRIM0008.jpg

yup pcs arnt the only thing i mod lol

BigD
08-20-2006, 04:30 PM
nice idea, ill think about this

so far we got plaid and zebra stripe, but also i dont realy want to mess with the outside paint, wich is a dark blue

harry18
08-20-2006, 06:15 PM
ok, are you gonna do any painting to itr just leave the colour like it is, you could do like a stary night, if your good at paiting and do a really pro job

BigD
08-20-2006, 07:20 PM
i am going to paint the inside, or if i can rent a spray gun, then ill do the whole thing

markkleb
08-20-2006, 07:30 PM
why not line the inside with the plastic panels? Than you can put different things behind them.
You could put a piece of cloth than cover it with plastic,

or you could cut out some pictures and use them.

or you could paint a piece of paper green for example and put it behind the plastic, if you changed ur mind you could take the green out and put a blue piece behind it.

If you do rent a spray gun they make thinner that evaporates very slow just for using when its hot outside.

BigD
08-20-2006, 08:00 PM
good idea mark, i think ive found a black spray paint that takes longer to dry, (acutally painted a small piece without the "dust") i might just paint all the inside black, then do that idea with the mobo tray and make a cover for the cd bay

BigD

to make a blow hole or to not make a blow hole....

markkleb
08-20-2006, 09:48 PM
do you need one? no

will it look cool for a mod contest?, mabye.

For best cooling air in the front and out the back in a straight as a line as you can make. With as little disturbing the air as possible.

When you add side and top fans it causes turbulance and now the straight air is spinning in circles.

How many front fans are u gonna use? What mobo,Video cards,Cpu cooler,How mant HDDs?

BigD
08-20-2006, 09:55 PM
well im going to have my old emachine mobo in it ( I have no extra pci-e cards so i cant use my EVGA mobo) its a microATX board w/ built in video, but for a contest id probly pull my good stuff outa my main rig and put it in there...

but id just have 1 hd, a silverstone nt02 cpu cooler and thats kinda it

im going to mount the hd in the 5 1/2in bay

uless i can offord two 7600gs's or one or anything on that matter im going to have to use the micro atx board

There's got to be turbulance to get rig of the dead air spaces to cool all the components in the system. If the air went in just a straight path, only the components in that path would be cooled. That's why inlets are on the bottom and the optimal exhaust in on the top so that cool air is drawn throughout the complets system.

(since heat rises) i think im going to put a blow hole, so by the end of today i hope to have both the blow hole cut and the window done!!

if not, i got school this next week :( so i dont think ill be able to get much done but hopefully they dont give me any work!

Bio-Hazard
08-20-2006, 10:45 PM
I've got the most of the top of my case open (mesh), so there's plenty of room for the hot air to escape..........;) My case runs right at room temp, but I also have 7 x 120mm fans installed..............:)

BigD
08-21-2006, 02:30 AM
nice a mountain mods case, god those are nice.... but were did you get that type of mesh cuz thats actually exactly what im looking for

working on the window right now, was at a party today so i didnt get any work done, i also have some tricks to share once i get pictures and finish this window

Bio-Hazard
08-21-2006, 04:49 AM
I got mine from a security window company, there are some places online where you can order it as well.

BigD
08-21-2006, 05:34 AM
well im almost done with the window, and i was thinking about painting it all black (outside and all) like a sparkly black (metalic i guess, car paint black) then adding red lights and accents and getting this window applique http://www.frozencpu.com/apl-190.html

how does everyone like this?

with red lights and such

BigD

hummm well im in webpage design at school right now, maybe i should switch to some sort of metal working class so i can mod pc's all year long!!

Kougar
08-21-2006, 05:44 PM
Applique's aren't really my thing unless it looks really good or fitting for it to be there... but honestly modding for aesthetics isn't my thing either so I'm not much of one to be commenting... ;)

BigD
08-22-2006, 01:58 AM
well i cut the hole in the side panel, now i just need to cut the plastic for it
i covered the enitre thing with masking tape, to protect it and so i can draw on it :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/BigD6997/IMG_2983.jpg

to get the 1 inch boarder without a ruler, as i didnt have one that long, i took a strip of the masking tape (1 inch) and sharpied
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/BigD6997/IMG_2984.jpg

then i cut
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/BigD6997/IMG_2988.jpg

and peeled off the tape
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/BigD6997/IMG_2989.jpg
looks good on the case
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v452/BigD6997/IMG_2990.jpg

now im waiting for some mesh to come in and molding for the edges of that window

werty316
08-22-2006, 04:33 AM
Question, what did you use to cut the side panel? A Dremel? I have a laser cut window coming want to cut my side panel as easy as possible.

Bevous
08-22-2006, 06:07 AM
A dremel is about the easiest and cheapest way to get it done, if you were here in our area, sbrehm72255 knows a guy that does waterjet cutting pretty cheap. If it were a one time deal, it's cheaper and cleaner than going out and buying a dremel............;)

BigD
08-22-2006, 08:11 AM
yeah i used a dremel, it takes a long time and if your not very carfull you will slip and put a nice dig all the way across your panel wich you dont want...

if you havnt cut metal with a dremel i would suggest not cutting up your side panel with one untill you used it a bit and know how it feels

08-22-2006, 02:12 PM
What attachment did you use with your dremel? Thats a pretty smooth cut and i have a few cases id like to practice on.

i used a reinforced cutoff bland, normal cutoff blades shatter and wear out way to quick for steal like this, the inforced blades will last 3 times longer and i went threw 3 1/2 of them while cutting this out:???:

there is a cutting attachment, but it doesnt work as well as you would hope, hard to keep a strieght line and it just doesnt cut strieght lines
