well, as you may have seen on my wooden computeer the is a 6.5" lcd screen which i still havnt gotten round to connecting up, when i had my old vga it only had a standard s-video, but my new x1900xt has, i think s-vhs, well i bought this cable for it http://i12.ebayimg.com/05/i/06/1a/fb/3f_1_b.JPG

and it fits good, buuut i needed male to male and thats male to female, i cant use it anyways cos i cut it up so much, as i was gonna splice it on on s-video and on to a molex to power the tv.

what im wondering is, will the little port on the back of my vga draw any power off the psu, so i can simply plug a cable from a to b, or will i need to splice the cable as initilly thought in order to give it power?

confusing post i know, thanks:confused:

sorry no, its an 8 pin mini din, not svhs!

As long as the LCD uses a S-video port, then all you would need is the right s-video cable. You would not power the LCD from your computer. :)

not for the computer you say? trouble is it only has one port and that is a mini din, so would i have to splice it in to the molex, or use a devoted psu?

I'd have to see the LCD to figure that out, you shouldn't have to splice any power into the cable, I can only see that damaging the display and graphics card.

Kougar, don't you think it would be best to splice and re direct at least 1 12Volt rail, and maby an extra 3.3V in there just in case the LCD needs more power?

Kidding.

Sorry Harry I am not sure what you sent by splice the cable.
I think you are in good hands with Kougars help.

Harry there should only be Video and audio signal on the S-Video cable.

There should be a seperate 12V input (a + and a -)on the TV monitor. I would connect the 12V+ to one of the yellow wires coming out of your PS and the 12V- to the black next to it. That way when the comps on the TV is on.

I couldnt understand if in your first post you wanted to connect the 12V to the video card (bad idea)

Here is a place with male to male cables

Harry there should only be Video and audio signal on the S-Video cable.

Sorry. Wrong. S-Video is just that VIDEO only.

trust me have stared at this tv for hours, there is only one port on it, i just bought this cabe just bougyt this cable, it will fit. and it has the exact pin layout for the vga, but i dunno how the tv is gonna get power, unless it draws it thro the vga?

harry18

I have installed a couple of Sony versions Harry. They come with a seperate box. The power and audio/video connect to the box than the cable goes fron the box to the Monitor. This ought to help, here is a link

http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/ISEO-rgbtcspd/reviews/20040914/vizualogic_install.html

It may be possible to hook it up without the extra box but without the wiring diagram you could fry your video card. I would NOT try to draw power from the VideoCard.

ok, so what im thinkin is, cut open the cable i bought, solder back the cables that do the video, and then the other ones plug on to a molex the power one, would that work?

actully i could get one of those boxes, wat they called, can i use any brand?

markkleb

from what I understand the boxes are splitters to VHS,DVD and Games. If you send a email to the company that built your monitor asking them for the wiring diagram you should be able to know for sure which wire goes where.

harry18
08-23-2006, 10:40 PM
ok, illl do that, is that a wiring diagram of the little box?

markkleb
08-23-2006, 11:14 PM
The wiring diagram of the cable going to the the monitor.

Harry, I went and talked to a Tech from Nesa first, The S-Video "style " cable does have Power and Video in it.
However they said there is no way to work it without the control box.

The salesman called today and said they do have them in stock, the ControlBox is about $30 and the cable is about $20.

problem is to send them to me is no prob, but I dont know whats its like to ship to you. (they said they wont ship overseas)

PM me if you need any more info, Mark

hmm, thanks alot mark:grin:

20$ for a cable!, umm i dunno what to do now:confused:

this may be asking alot, but is it ok to shp it to you, and then you post it to me, sorry if that seems kind of rude for me to ask. is this the thing that i need btw

http://cgi.ebay.com/NESA-VISION-MVA-4-4Way-Adjustable-Video-Booster-A-V-NEW_W0QQitemZ300017686031QQcmdZViewItem

?

Its not rude, farting is rude, lol

No thats a Booster to increase the signal. What you need is the control box,
Basically you connect the power, and sound and video imputs to it,

than through the cable you cut up it sends signal and power to the TV.

I will look to see how much shipping is to you.

If the box is $30 and there is $8 shipping to me than on top of that shipping to you it may be not worth it,

What if you were to buy a small LCD tv over there, take it out of its enclosure and installed it in ur comp?

Something like this,
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2296108&cp=2032057.2032170&allCount=51&fbn=Screen+size%2FUnder+10%22&f=PAD%2FScreen+Size+Range%2FUnder+10%22&fbc=1&parentPage=family

It is already compleate with speakers too.

trouble is the screen is alrewady in my comp and it fits snug, id probly have to cut the case to get a difernt one it fit.....will i need the 20$ cable? cos if its just a standard 8pin mini din, then i can get one over here for like £1

and the sweet thing is, $50 sounds like alot, but its only like £30 which sounds pretty cheap:grin:

have a look at the shipping prices, thanks again mark, your being exceedingly helpful far beyond the expectations of an internet buddy8-)

Hey Harry, the parts came today. I thought they were a fan so I opened them.

2 pieces, 1 is a noise filter with power (12v in and 12v out). The other is the control box with 2 sets of inputs(Yellow for video and red/white for Audio left and right)

on the other side is a place for power in, the Din Style cable to ur monitor and another output(yellow, white and red) for another monitor.

Il send it out first thing tomorrow am to you.
