For those of you unaware, Call of Juarez is a pretty decent western genre game that plays off the duality of two distinctly different story characters whom are both playable in game. The 2nd in the series, Bound in Blood, was IMO for the most part an improvement over the first, especially the shootouts, which were done more realistically.
In Call of Juarez there is horseback riding, stage coach shootouts, gritty dialog, and religious undertones. It's no Red Dead Redemption, but pretty good fun just the same. The latest installment "The Cartel" is flash forwarded to present day where you play a descendant of one of the previous characters along with two other characters this time. All 3 of you are are fighting a Mexican drug cartel.
Long story short, this one is being ridiculed for losing the old school western feel the others had and having a very poorly written story, trashy dialog, and lots of repetitious gameplay. Worse yet it's said to be riddled with bugs. I was reading some reviews and player's first impressions, and in light of the type of movies hitting the box office lately, it occurred to me it could have just as well been called Cowboys and Illegal Aliens.
I can only hope Red Dead Redemption will eventually come to PC to fill the western craving the first two installments of Call of Juarez left me with.
