RAID 0 Performance on a ASUS P6T WS Pro

Hi all. I'm going to be configuring my first RAID 0 this weekend. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this specific board and the on-board RAID controllers. I guess there are two RAID controllers, an intel controller and a Marvell controller. I read on AnandTech.com that it would be best to just disable the Marvell controller and use the intel controller because the Marvell controller has some additional configuring during POST that can add about 10 seconds to the boot time while the intel controller doesn't. Anyone have any advice? The drives i'll be using are a pair of OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD's.

You mean the P6T6 WS Pro?

I have experience with most makes and models of RAID chips. Make sure you have the correct RAID driver copied off your Mobo driver disk, short of that download the RAID drivers from Asus and copy them off to both Thumb Drive and Cd Burner disk. Inevitably if you put it on disk it'll want thumb drive and vice versa. It's a good idea to have a static disk with raid drivers on it anyway.

Mark your burner disk, and if you got it Mobo driver disk put them into a paper sleeve and tape it behind the motherboard on the side where it won't show. I deal with lost driver disks every day it's not a lot of fun. Chances are the drivers are outdated but loosing the disk reduces resale value. They will do in a pinch.

After configuring RAID 0 i highly recommend some form of backup like acronis or blackarmor. RAID 0 fails a lot more than static single drive configurations (2x as often).

Typically on built in RAID chips it's software RAID and not as effective as hardware RAID but hardware raid they want your firstborn child and little finger in payment.

I have a P8z68v Pro that uses both. I did not bother to disable the Marvell-for no particular reason. I agree with Methious, 0 is a bit risky. I have two SSD’s now in my z68 rig but one is for boot and one for programs. Why double your risk with a failure for RAID 0?
