found a bfg 285 1g ocx @ work gut it and took it home to replace one of my ati 5870 for folding and it's hot. my 5870 fold around 72c but that sucker fold around 85c. is that ok? my last green card is 9800gt 1g. so i don't know is that's the nor temps for 285? anyone knows? and it give me blank sceen sometime, i replace the grease in it already hope it will help on the temp wise
if its as old as mine then it prolly could use new thermal/pads/grease. Have you tried turning up the fan?Quote:

Those temps look fine. I remember some of those cards went up to 87, even to 90. But you gotta watch out though that these temps don't go higher than like 91, otherwise you might have driver crashes, or instability. Turn the fan up a bit if possible, replace thermal paste if you got a chance, and that should help a bit. Card should be roughly around 78-82 at full load.
now it's around 82c with open case, i already replace thermal paste on the weekend, i just hate it crash and give me blank screen, other than that, it's a nice heater for the winter
My old 285 gtx used to hit 90c on a regular basis. Took off the sides to the case and put a small fan on the floor facing the cards (8800 gtx next to it). Temps would hover around 83c.
Anyways the BFG 285GTX ocx by now would be considered vintage/collectors card since the company that sold them is no more. I remember few years back Dell had a big sale on them and some here tried to get'em but they ran out of stock fast.

If your case has place for a fan on the side panel, install one blowing on the video card. The temps should drop quite a bit.
Yep, good air circulation is a must, especially the high-end cards.
Harumph! Back in my day, a Number Nine 4MB card would run for hours without a hint of heat troubles.
