The MB on an older machine of mine conked out. I want to fix it up for the gal pal. Any ideas of what would be the best alternative? Most that I have seen want more than what I could pay for a whole system.

Depends on where you live. I don't think Newegg has ever carried desktop M boards.
I have a E8400 dual core and Gigabyte EP45-UD3R mobo i am thinking of parting out if you are interested. Its in my sig.
Im assuming the old board was an intel board :D They konk of pretty quick. If she's got DDR3 Modules, try to get this one.. ASUS P5G41TM_LXor an ASUS P5KPL-CMI had the later one. It was awesome, but i wanted to upgrade to the first with the DDR3 Memory :) I bought my boards used (great deals)
Those wont work. Not socket M, and the Core Duo line was DDR2.
Perhaps there's something you want from me? :)

Depend on how much do you have. i think the intel core duo is quite old, if u have enough money, sell it and buy new CPU- motherboard socket 1155 SB or IV
There are MB that support C2D that have DDR3. I have one actually. I did not see a mention of it being a mobile chip. You can pick up a Mobo for a C2D on Amazon for 60.00
Wolfdale and Yorkfield chips have a 1333 FSB capable of DDR3 yes, but this person said Core Duo, not 2. Core Duos are Socket M chips with either a 667 or 533 FSB for DDR2 based laptops. The OP says machine so it could be a typo, but I'm just going by what the OP said.

it's cheap and it's suitable for your rig
Mr. Obvious here. Black Friday has some serious sales on comps for under $500. Ditch the C2D.
