No Post after BIOS Update

If your BIOS update seems to go smoothly but there is no post upon the reboot, please remove the CMOS battery and disconnect the power cord from the system for a few minutes. Then reconnect both and reboot as this seems to resolve such issues. If you still have problems after that, please let us know.

Has anyone expierenced this with the 680i SLI motherboard? I just updated to P30 bios using the winflash utility and my board wouldn't post. I'm trying the battery thing right now.

Yes I had the same thing happen to me when upgrading to the P31 bios using the winflash util....It crashed right after I flashed the board... just kept getting beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep...beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep and no post.

The motherboard would not power up, took it back to the shop and what do yer know.... it powered up dag nammit..

The moral of the story here is NOT to use the windows flash util, but rather the update facility from within the bios menu...!!!

Updating the BIOS in windows is risky; you are much better off using a flashdrive, CD or the good 'ole 3.25" floppy.

Yep, that is the only reason all my rigs still have floppy drives.

Sometimes BIOS flashes can be shakey. I updated my friend's BIOS in his Abit board and it wouldn't boot for a couple of times but then after a few reset button punches and power cord pulls, it booted!

Hi,

i had this issue too with the 680i LT mobo.
did the bios update with a HDD booted DOS partition and with a DOS Disk.

Issue resolved by reflashing the 721N9P06 Bios with a PLCC Programmer. Now everything is fine...

What makes me wondering is that the mem is running at 2.4Volts@nooverclock...

Hi,
I had also a bad expirence with winflash and updating to bios P06. After the restart I see the XFX logo, but its not going further for 10 seconds. Suddenly the PC shust off, after trying to restart or put the jumper to pin 1,2 or put the battery out for 5 minutes nothing helped. PC isnt booting at all.
Now I see a blue and yellow light in the Mainboard when its powered is on

Yes, a BIOS update in Windows *is* risky. But XFX does not even provide an alternative way (read DOS) to update the BIOS on their newest 780i board. I've had a support case with them for more than a month and they are unable to provide something other than the Windows update, they insist that's the safest way.

Now you and me know better than that.

I guess i'm one of the lucky ones, i've updated bios in windows a couple of times now and never had a problem. I don't have a floppy drive for at least five years now if not more. Hope i don't run out of luck.

Windows flash *is* less risky, it has a lower failure rate, that is why so many companies use it. 90% of companies tell you to use winFlash, some give you other methods, some don't.

Some people think doing a floppy, which is in there control, is better. But it is best to use window, specially for beginners. We are telling people on here that never went into BIOS before to flash there BIOS from BIOS.

XFX 680i LT SLI

I have exactly the same problem, I can boot the system if I reset the CMOS beforehand. After that I am prompted to continue booting using defaults, or go into bios. If I go into the bios and make any changes it hangs after I exit. If I hit Del and continue with the defaults it works until I reboot or shut it off again.

Any fixes? This is seriously frustrating.

BTW: Opening nTune or Nvidia Monitor causes and instant power-off. I assume that is because they are trying to access the CMOS.

So far I am not impressed with XFX.
