Manually Setting Your Memory Timings and Voltage!!

I just wanted to ensure that everyone has their RAM voltages set correctly in the BIOS. RAM voltages differ from manufacture to manufacture so be sure to check with them to find the proper settings. If your voltage is too low you can and most likely will run into issues. On the other hand if it is too high you risk damaging your RAM.

IMHO, and recent experience definitively.
I had OCZ ddr3 mem rated at 1.8 volts, and the 790i mobo comes standard with 1.5 Volt settings.
The undervoltage protection prevents the system to start.
Drove my nuts at the start. computer seems normal, but no signal to HD and graphics.
The weird thing is that you cannot enter bios to alter the voltage settings, unless you use some cheap 1.5volt memory.

I posted a PDF in the first message. I need to grab screens of every BIOS we have but the two main ones are in there, the Intel AWARD BIOS and the AMI AMD BIOS.

Hi,

Joined the forum today as I recently got a new XFX Mobo and found your site to provide some good support info. Hope you could help.

Just installed the XFX 780i 3-way SLi Mobo with OCZ Fatality DDR-1066 memory (4x 1GB sticks). The BIOS (P0 main screen shows the SLi ready status of memory as "Disabled" and according to manual it then has detected SLi ready RAM. It does however not allow me to "Enable" this setting and I have to manually set the RAM speed to 1066 (set as Linked and divider of 5:4).

Your advice will be great.

That is normal for four sticks. EPP only stores a two stick profile. You will always have to set your settings manually with fours sticks.

i have the xfx 790i ultra sli and am running 4x1gig sticks of ocz ddr3 2000mhz sli ram, are these settings in the pdf doc relevant for my ram??? tnx for starting this thread as it will help a few people im guessing??

The screens for the AWARD BIOS are from the 780i so the timings will be lower since it uses DDR2. For the 790i 2GHz DDR3 you are probably talking more like 9-9-9-28 2T and 1.9-2.0v. It will depend on the chips that were used on the sticks by the manufacturer. If you haven't already than be sure that you update to the latest BIOS for the board.

yes ive updated the bios to the P07 correct? the voltage thats on my ram says 1.8v but ive put it @ 1.9v, tnx for the timings buddy, ill check it out in a bit but im pretty sure this is what i have already?? ill double check though tnx

Ok, I have a XFX X58i and im running into problems with it not posting when there are more than 1 sticks of DD3 1333 memory in it... now my question is, could the undervoltage be preventing my motherboard from posting when more than 1 stick is in it, meaning, will changing the voltage maybe help in making the motherboard boot and recognize all 6gb of ram? funny thing is it posted ONCE with all 3 sticks in it, but then never again... thanks for your prompt reply, im going nuts here...

Well, found out my memory works with 1.5V, changed that in Bios to force it, installed the other 2 dimms (the ones that are not working) and it will not post, so sorry for the question, and in case anyone else was wondering... Changing your voltage will not fix the X58i problem of not posting with more than 1 2gb pc 1333 stick in it...

OK Gang just posted my support ticket request today. OCZ Platinum 3x2GHz sticks of PC3 12800 bandwidth 1600 Mhz hand matched set. Only slots 1 and 2 'work' giving me 4Gb Max on the X58i Motherboard. Most memory bios settings are greyed out and I can not access them. I see no way of getting the other 4 slots to 'see' the other 2gb board. Error codes are 88 and nothing (most common) or advance to d4 and halt before POST finished (When more than slots 1 and 2 are in use).

I have not enough information from the manufacture's web site to set up this DIMM using the few settings that I can access in Bios, which I have updated from the Intel site to the latest. Just woot is now called 'over clocking' but everything else is the same and as I say most memory settings are grey and I can not go there.

I followed the PDF from the initial post, however, in my JustWoot, some of the options don't allow me to choose the posted setting.

Just for example, the Tras in the screenshot is set to 18, but my highest option might be 15. I found this with at least two of the settings.

Also on page 5, it says "Set your DRAM Voltage Control as instructed".
As instructed where??!!!!

I am working with the 750a mobo and am trying to get my system to recognize the 1066 speed of my RAM. It is registering as 800 with Nvidia System Tools.
