Would you buy a new card to Fold@Home?
My question is would buy a new card to Fold@Home and play games on if it meant you would not have to use a bunch of other computers to have good Folding progess?

I am with Dragon_CPU. Plus, I don't game......
The boss on the home front (wife) would kill me if I spent that much on a single computer part. She would tell me that I can go buy a whole computer for that price ($400 or more).
By the way, she is technologically challenged! She can understand that I have three computers under my desk. 1 for XP, 1 for Vista, and 1 for Linux.

Yep thats why it took so long for me to buy a 3870, and I just traded for a 2900XT on another forum to have it to play with but no way I would have ever spent $300 or more for the XT or an x2 or gtx...well you get the picture I like a fast vid card but if it costs more than $200 total forget it sorry just me I'd rather spend the money on a better processor or ram or such...Of course I can afford them though, look how many systems I ve since I joined a few months ago 4...LOL...I go through systems like changing my socks...I just like to test out new parts and then get something different and do it again, I should be a reviewer...HMMM
Anyone call dibs on the current build it'll probably be sold in a month or 2...LMAOLast edited by Dragon_CPU; 06-14-2008 at 07:15 PM.

Im thinking of getting a GTX 260, and putting my 8800 GT in another rig to fold. I would also fold the GTX 260 but not as much.

I would most def. buy a new card that would outfold all the PCs in my house, Ive been more then happy with the bang i got for my buck on a lonely 9800GTX. Wouldn't mind trying out a dual core card soon to fold and game on!!
Well, Art is Art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water. And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now you tell me what you know. ”

I would and voted for #3 of not spending more than $600 on. But in all honesty I think I would go even higher then that because I have a hole in my pocket when it comes to computers. Christ I spent $1300 on my water cooling system alone in my newest build...

I voted for the second option, but honestly I couldn't see myself even spending that much on a graphics card.

I was amazed how many people bought ATI x1950 XTX or similar cards for Folding purposes when the GPU1 client came out. However those cards were under $300, and only got cheaper or could be bought used for even less.
I wouldn't buy a GPU just because I can fold on it, but I'd be more than happy to buy the best performing GPU that can also do Folding@home... at a reasonable price! $650 is just way outside of my budget, not to mention most others I bet.

It's amazing what a little competition can do... 9800GTX got price cut to $199, and 9800GTX+ got launched at $229. The + means it is a shrunk 55nm and higher clocked 9800GTX.
With the 4850 making a stir and the 4870 en route to launch next week things will only heat up.

I voted no because I really SHOULDN'T buy new hardward these days, with my non-paying job and all...
Also electricity isn't all that expensive here.
However I would probably seriously consider getting a cheap used card that can fold for my 2nd folder if that was clearly cheaper than paying for electricity.
