Artic Cooling Accelero XTREME 4870X2
One of the hotest running video cards on the market today is undoubtably the champion is the 4870X2 video card. Does Artic Cooling have what it takes to cool this video card?

I was interested by this article, having owned the accelero extreme for the 8800gtx and having the fan fail after 2 months, I was curious about how the reviewer fared with his sample. I found an lot of things, but not my answer....
Oh, I should mention I do not use the original back plate that ATI puts on the 4870X2 because it causes the heat to get trapped on the backside of the video card.
"Because, I opted not use the back plate that ATI used (Artic Cooling says to re-use it), My screws would not fully seat properly."
There are a couple of things that could be better with this GPU cooler. Artic Cooling could have (should have) included larger core mounting screws. The ones that came with the original cooler were a tad short to fully reach through the cross brace and then reach the mounting plate of the Accelero XTREME 4870X2. Artic Cooling could have also included the nylon washers for the other machine screws that hold this GPU cooler on, as some of us do not use the stock back full cover plate.
My suggestion would be the following: test the product the way it was intended to be used, then if you see room for improvement, try it. But dont write a review, use a home-made solution, and then list the screws not being long enought for you custom mounting solution in the cons. You could of tried both solution, and compared them, but the fact that you did not even talk about trying the normal mounting solution as suggested by the manufacturer speaks for your thourougness and credibility.
"as well as for the power thinys on the 4870X2"
If you review equipment, how about sounding professional and using the right terms. "Thingy", even when written the right way, conveys that noobish feel I would want to avoid as a reviewer, and does wonders for your credibility, once again. I dont even know who wrote the article, and I dont care, I just felt that this was worst than any review I ever read. The word you probably wanted to use was mofset or VRM...

i lost the orginal back plate, the minute i got the vid i removed the back plate. I also stated that during the review, mentioned that this was my choice and my workaround. I dont remember even using the term thingy's, if it is there i will fix that. but as for the screws not being long enough Artic Cooling also found out that this was a reoccurring issue as well, as they feel the screws need to be longer as well.
now I will include that into the review so for those who need these longer screws pls contact artic cooling HERE and they will send you these screws free of charge.Regarding the Accelero XTREME 4870x2, we got some feedback from customer that the screws may not long enough for some graphic cards when installing the X-plate. I don't know if you face the same problem or not.
Anyway, I would like to send the new screw set for your testing.

Great review, but....
..what about VRM? Can You test them under load? What temps You get for them? Can You post some screens of their temps from RivaTuner?

Hello. As it seems, it's really hard to find Accelero Xtreme 4870X2 these days. Is it possible to buy a spare Xtreme 4870X2 fan and mount it to stock heatsink ?
Thank you
