What are you guys thinking about the new series? I'm sure your all excited about the contest, but being that there's more than one person entered don't count on winning, so lets try to keep this about buying one.

Almost pulled the trigger on a 5850. I've got a 4850 now, and I usually skip a generation -- so it says something that ATI has me considering an upgrade.

However, it would be crazy not to wait for Nvidia's response. Even if I don't go back to the Nvidia fold, that 5850 is likely to be cheaper then.

I feel the need for a DX11 card. Just having all these new features makes my programmer side drool. I know there's a chance I won't actually get to try them (instead spending my time on hardware sites ), but I really do have plans to try them. I'm currently waiting to see what the 57x0 cards will be like. Might get one of them, as I'm sure it'd be a step up in performance from my 3870.

I am not sure Nvidia's offerings will be DirectX11 however. Not only are they downplaying it themselves...http://xbitlabs.com/news/video/displ...ics_Cards.html But they are also threatened by it because it will help the ATI cards with Physics with Havok. Mind you Havok would work as well on the Nvidia cards but Nvidia does not want to see their PhysX go down the tubes either. So what I am thinking is going to happen is that 1) Nvidia is going to be DirectX10. 2) Nvidia is going to be DirectX11 but with some things disabled as a marketing attempt to blame Havoc for breaking games and DirectX11 dies in the water like 10.1. 3) They bite the bullet and come out with a fully working DirectX 11 card going toe to toe with Havok causing a awesome Physics battle which we will all benefit from.

I'm going to wait and see what comes out and then decide to either upgrade to a newer Nvidia card or keep what I have until a later card comes out.
