Default GPU/CPU Folding: The Easy Way

Whether you're a novice or experienced folder the FAH GPU Tracker V2 makes installing and setting up your CPU and GPU clients as easy as pie. All of your PC's folding clients are now in one directory and configuring those clients could not be easier.

First visit http://fahtracker.com/ and download the latest version of the program. Then extract the file to your preferred location. Open the folder and click the FAH GPU Tracker V2.exe.

Information on using the FAH GPU Tracker with Kepler based cards. http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1624942 (added by Blacksmith1)

You may need to Run as Administrator if you have UAC enabled.

Click yes to download the FAH clients now.

Next click the Setup tab then Configure.

Now you need to choose whether you want to use CPU, GPU clients, or both.
If you have a processor with 2 cores or more you can enable CPU folding and use multi-core SMP client.

If you have a Core i7 or Xeon processor with 8 processes or more (or 8 core+ AMD), you can check the enable -bigadv box. You'll want to have your Core i7 overclocked to at least 3.4ghz in order to run these and complete them on time though.

Check the Enable GPU Folding button and click Autodetct GPU's to have your GPU clients automatically configured. The GPU3 client should only be used for Nvidia GTX 400/500 series cards ATI 5000 series cards will require the ATI R700 selection to work, since the client can't detect them properly yet.

Click on Yes to accept these settings and continue.

Next click the Tracker Settings tab and enter your folding name, team number (41608 for Bjorn3D), passkey, and EOC ID.

You can get a passkey here if you don't already have one: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py
You need a passkey in order to qualify for SMP and -bigadv bonus points.

To get your EOC ID visit http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...php?s=&t=41608 and click on your user name in the list. The last 6 numbers in the subsequent URL will be your EOC ID. Mine is 250561.

Look at the Client Settings area on the Tracker tab for one unit mode, gaming pause, and client autostart options.

The Heat Control tab can be used to set up fan speeds for certain work units which tend to make your GPU run hotter. At present the GPU3 client does not support this option but may in the future. However the GPU2 client does support this for those of us who use Nvidia 8xxx, 9xxx, or 2xx series cards.

There are more options but these are the basic ones you'll use to get started.

At present this program cannot calculate bonus points but future versions may.

If I missed anything I will update as necessary.

heat control will only work if the card in your system supports it. my 9600 GSO's fans are not adjustable. at least nothing afects them so far.

This is exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to run SMP on 3 cores and allow the GPU to have a full core to itself. I'll be trying this as soon as this WU finishes in the next 3 hours. Thanks!

let me know if that makes a noticable increase in your ppd. assuming that you are currently running smp on 4 and the gpu as well.

That is exactly what I want to do with my quadcore and gpu! great minds think alike. Did you get a PPD boost? What settings are you using on SMP?

Even if you could somehow trick the FAH client into thinking your x6 had 8 cores I don't think it would fold fast enough to complete -bigadv work in time.

So it appears using both added only about 1000 PPD(sometimes less, maybe a wash), not sure it is worth it, the 5770, just isn't as powerful(I wish they would optimize folding for AMD soon). Taking one core away from smp really has slowed down my SMP fold time on that computer. I have a 6850 coming today, am going to install that and see what happens. I really wanted to buy a GTX 460 but I got the 6850 for so cheap, I couldn't say no. It seems a 240/250 both fold better than the 5770.
I think I may be adding about 150 kWhr to this months energy bill, ha, the apartment sure is warmer. Haven't kicked on the heater once yet.

Does this bypass SLI by chance?
I set it up to run two clients and it let me and I have my 9800 GTX's in SLI.
Evidently it does but it doesn't correct anything when you leave out a letter in your user name!
Oh well it was only 6 units worth!
