You gotta like stand on it and look down or something stupid. When you learn a new one they want you to test it on them and you gotta hold it and let go.

Been playing this game after beating the others I've played recently. It's pretty good for the most part. Dragon slaying is good fun. I'm only level 15 or so thus far, but have one handed up to 50, smithing to 38, and am on my way to making some good armor. I'm playing as warrior using Lydia as companion. She looks like a hybrid knight/guard and wields the Axe of Whiterun pretty damn well. She's not bad with a bow either. I'm also surprised at how well she can negotiate terrain, as long as I don't get too crazy with the route I take.
I just acquired the Glass Bow, and improved it and my Orcish Sword on the grinding stone, though I'm not sure how using a grinding stone to improve a bow makes sense. Shouting is pretty cool. I love slinging arrows at dragons, taking cover behind a tall rock as they land, shouting at them when they're down to 1/4 health, then attacking their side with one handed blows to finish them off. The last one I killed took a while. It was flying around in a large area between Whiterun and Silent Moon Camp attacking near where some Giants and Mammoths were, so I had to keep luring it away with Battle Cries.
They could have done some things better though. Out of the blue Whiterun guards will attack me, for what, I don't know. It started mostly after doing missions for the Thieve's Guild, but I haven't even joined them yet. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they would just arrest you every time so you could talk your way out or do the jail time, but often times Lydia will start attacking as they approach while I'm standing there unarmed. She's programmed to holster and crouch as the player does, but not to restrain arms when the player does.
Overall this game has tons of stuff to do and lots of ways to play though. I've read it is also pretty unbarred from player faction decisions ruining your experience, but the Whiterun guards make me wonder otherwise. I've killed Giants, a Frost Troll, various mages, etc, but have yet to encounter vampires, werewolves and other creatures of the occult except for skeleton zombies, which are easy to kill. I have just acquired some weapons that might be good for fighting creatures of the night though, including one that does extra damage when there's moonlight.
Can't wait to use my Glass Bow. It has over 3 times the power my Orcish Bow did.Last edited by Frag Maniac; 01-23-2012 at 06:12 AM.

Check and see (when you click escape) if you have any bounty on your player. maybe you accidentally killed someone you shouldn't have.

So it actually says if there's a bounty on you? Does it say what for too? There was 3 guys with horned helmets that attacked us after fast traveling to Riverwood. It was a contract hit. I know because I found the contract when looting them. I think that's where the trouble started, because for some reason a Whiterun guard showed up too. I ended up fast traveling back to Whiterun and finally the guard managed to arrest me before Lydia could go wild, so I just did the jail time. All seems good now, but I'm reluctant to join the thieves guild.
Ever since I started taking missions for the thieves guild and wearing their armor, strange things have been happening. I went to the Rivewood trader late at night and a thief was being pursued by a Whiterun guard. He went into the traders store where we were and the guard followed. Lydia proceeded to kill the thief before the guard could. I was wondering if we'd get in trouble for it, but the guard didn't seem bothered by it.
I also saw a thief lurking outside the door of the Riverwood trader store as I was leaving late one night. He sounded startled and appeared to be trying to break in, despite the store being open. He ran off, came back, then acted startled by me again, weird. These thieves in the game are a strange lot.
I'll be checking the status screen often from now on. Thanks for the heads up.Last edited by Frag Maniac; 01-23-2012 at 06:27 AM.

I don't think it will go into detail like "you killed so and so in cold blood" but it will show you a list of how many murders, trespasses , etc.
Funnily enough I seemed to acquire a murder myself at some point but I don't have any bounty on my head.
It would be nice iff it did list who you killed and where.New rig.

Well I checked and it doesn't indicate if there's a bounty on your player as you said. It only shows a history of lifetime bounty and largest bounty. Since the game is so horrid at indicating whether there is one on you at present time though, I think it would be a good idea if they indicated it somehow in real time. It would have to be something you could see at a glance before going to the place where you're wanted to be effective. An onscreen warning before fast traveling to or when nearing an area where you're wanted would be good. At least then you could prepare for it by sending your housecarl home so you can just submit to arrest without your follower attacking the guards.
I just tried the Diplomatic Immunity quest for Delphine last night. Despite winding up giving ALL my things to her to pass through the guards, I managed to find some things in the embassy and use shouts, retreats and scavenging guards I killed one at a time to get through it. Some have suggested lowering difficulty to novice for that quest when you have no gear to use, but I left it on Adept.
Only problem was I made the mistake of traveling there with my housecarl Lydia. I assumed she was still back at Solitude, since the animation to board the carriage to the party shows only the player getting on it, but she showed up at the embassy when the **** hit the fan. She ended up getting killed, so now I'm going to play it over. I think the Frost Troll in the small cave got her when I had to retreat to recover once.
I've seen a video of that quest played as an elf with high sneak rating and it's WAY easier. Sometimes I wish I'd chosen elf as character type and thief as a skill set, vs Nord warrior. I'm going to try some stealth kills next time when I play it over, but I'm told you can't sneak past the mage unless you're an elf.Last edited by Frag Maniac; 01-23-2012 at 08:39 PM.
