    Default Best video converter/encoder

    Hi guys

Im looking for software that will utilize my X6 cpu when converting videos. Currently I'm using AVS as it seems to take advantage of mutlicore convertion.

Or better yet video encoder that will utilize both cpu and gpu.

    Any suggestion will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I use 2: Sony Vegas and Power Director 9. PD9 is touted as "the world’s first native 64-bit consumer video editor". It does extremely well rendering mpeg4 when Truvelocity is engaged. I don't like all of its features so I still use my 3 year old copy of Vegas for creating dvd's. So, for me, I will render videos plus capture DV using Power Director and will create DVD's using Vegas. Try both demos. I do know all cores on my i7 run at 90% or more during renders.

Bit of advice: What ever product you choose, stay within your level of expertise. I use a very expensive, job specific program at work that can do thousands of things my home software can't. Does not matter because I don't have the time or inclination to do the same work on home/family videos. A solid home product that covers novice to the advanced user, should cost between $70-$100, in my opinion.

I am pretty sure they do not sell my version of Vegas any longer so the link is for version 10. http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro

A simple one I use on my server is ConvertXtoDVD. I simply tell it to create the menu's and chapters, add or delete subs, ect and it'll burn them to DVD too. I typically use this to downgrade my BDs for someone who can't use them. For outright conversion without a specific purpose I use Daniusoft Video Converter Ultimate to make use of my GPU for converting.

Thanks for the tip PP. I'll consider using it to convert my 1080p HD home videos (of my baby girl) so my wife's parents will be able to watch them on their 'simple' DVD Player.
