Black I am not trying to correct or sound like a know it all but why you need a 1000W Psu? I see your rig in your tag and it cant draw more than 500W or so.

Brief example. My folding rig 2600k 4.7ghz, 2 GTX570's, multiple HD's & SSD H70 & Kaze Fans and full bore folding only draws 580W from the plug(no correction). My HX850 dosent even break a sweat.

You could run all three cards at the same time with just a HX850.

I was running the gx2 with one of the 280's. I want to run all 3 280's and the gx2 in another rig and both 9800gt's in mine. I found a place that still has some foxconn destroyer boards.

using the pus calc in the gereal hardware thread it says i need high 600's-low to mid 700's watt's depending on where I tweak the settings for cap aging and such. that's based on using 2 280'2 or 2 gx2's so i figure if i put all four cards in one rig I want enough to run my M/B, cpu, those cards, 2-3 hdd's, a couple DVD r/w's my famn controller, multiple fans. and (with luck and some penny pinching) leave some head room for a water loop or 2 ( or 3 etc) i have no way to measure the actual draw ATM. I gues I could ask my roomate if he has something that will do it. he's an A/C mech with alot of toys for that job.
do you think my psu could handle 2 280's and one 9800gt? or 1 280, 1 gx2 and the gt? or even 3 280's? I found a triple sli asus for sale new.

Yes wattage wise it will work, but does it have enough pci-e power coming out. A 750 PSU should have enough connectors for 3 cards.

BTW Antec PSU calculator is about dead on.

that's the same one rebranded for them.
Ok it is a bit different. It says I can't run any 2 of the cards I have while folding full time.

the psu calc you posted says i can't run any 2 of the dual power connector cards. when I put 2 280's in sli it goes over 750. when i put 2 gx2 sli it goes over 750. this means it's saying I cant run both cards in any combo in my rig. not that they won't fold but that my psu is too weak.

ok after playing with it i find that even if I hook up my 550w for the HDD's, fans, and optical. it cant drive three 280's and the m/b-CPU with O/C or not. it's about 50-60 watts short.
so I'm thinkin that if i drive the M/b, fans, controler, etc with the 550, i could use the 750 just for the cards. it's an ungainly, ugly solution, but it would work till i can find an 850 or better.
I just need to figure out how to mount the extra PSU so that it cant be disconected accidentily.
thermal take sunami dream case, if anyone cares to take a stab at a mounting idea. Now I'm wishing I had one of those cases i saw that let you choose between top or bottom mount for the PSU.

What do your 280's draw wattage wise. they just have one pci-e(6-pin) power or two?

I would prolly mount the extra PSU at the top with the power plug coming out the front of the case

    1) 6pin 1) 8 pin, so does the gx2, the 260's are 2)6pin
