Dead Transmission? Odd way of dying if so....
So after the last issue I had with my transmission had been resolved, I'm going to check the solenoids first. This issue seems to be entirely new and one I haven't even read about anywhere.
On my way to work this morning after getting off the freeway, my car's RPMs shot straight up. I wasn't purposely revving my car or anything, I was just driving normal keeping it 45MPH on the street. It's as if the transmission disengaged gears while driving. Then when I got to a red light and tried to accelerate the transmission again didn't seem to engage the gears.
As for When the gear re-engaged I didn't get that "kick" I got before when the first transmission went out or when the solenoid broke. There was no kick. It's was as if the transmission slowly re-engaged and the "kick" never happened.
Also, I did hear a slight hissing sound whenever I would give the engine some gas, so this makes me think that there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Are there any hoses that could affect the shifting mechanism of our cars?
During this whole time that the transmission wasn't engaging or having trouble staying engaged, the D4 was never blinking. Isn't the D4 light supposed to be blinking whenever there is a severe transmission related issue? Or is this just not "severe enough" to make it blink?
When I did get to work, I used my OBD II scanner (a cheap one) and it gave me the following codes and descriptions:
P0763 - Solenoid
P0740 - Torque Converter
P1491 - (No description, but I know this is the EGR valve)
"Undefined" - (I know I need a high end scanner to get me this value)
For P0763 and P0740 the CEL thread just says "A/T Issue", so that doesn't help much.
When I pulled up to my work, I shut the car off for about 5min. and told my friend. He asked to see it and then everything was working perfectly fine. I have no idea why this was the case.
With all of this, do you guys think that this could be a torque converter issue, a solenoid issue, a vacuum leak, or that my transmission is just completely gone? I really hope it's just another solenoid or something else simple that could easily get fixed and not something that requires lots of time and money.
If it's a new/rebuild tranny job I'm going to need, it's going to suck cuz I was saving up for a 6spd manual swap! Now, what I have saved up will go straight to the new/rebuild trans job
