Default Another One Bites The dust

And another one and another goes, another one bites I said Hay I am gonna get you too, another one bites the dust.

Well it is official, I Dragon the Destructor has sent a perfectly good 2600K CPU to the great overclocking heaven. I killed it by overclocking it to death...... Kinda funny story actually, I was be bopping along at 5.2 GHz, decided to redo the OS everything went fine I installed the drivers like a good little boy does and then upon reboot nothing notta zip..... At first I though it was PSU, but I used another one, then I switched out boards still got zip, tried different configurations and still nothing. Its been a long time since I torched something........

I had it set to 1.46 that's low considering what Asus AI Suite II/OC tuning put the voltages at for there overclock. I was going more for a BCLK overclocking which I was able to reach 111 before it went poof. Weird thing is Even though it's not working The CPU still gets pretty warm I just have 0 video, also the motherboard does a reboot refresh eveytime I boot it. Either Way I still have the 970 Monster cruising @ 4.3 GHz, and the Core i5 750 @ 4 GHz serving as a HTPC. I was thinking on replacing the 2600K but decided against it, I will be looking into AMD's Bulldozer Octo Core. and use it as a overpowered, overclocked, overbuilt HTPC LOL.......

hrmmmm, have you tried resetting the bios via the reset bios button or w/e or removing the battery on the mobo leave it undone for like a minute then put the battery back in and then see if it boots up??? Maybe ur bios is just hardcore crashed and hopefully can be fixed? I would try this if you havent, and if not man I hope you best of luck and keep us update on what ur doing :-\

Dragon is our resident mad scientist. If he says he torched it, I for one, do not question that. I am still trying to figure out what exactly movtivates him to tourture his equipment so brutally tho'...

Me thinks the BCLK did you in, I've heard its a no no to mess with that, not to say that the high V core didnt't help. The sad thing is the Sandy Bridge motherboards can do alot more than the chips can.

Recommended volts for 2600k are up to 1.38, 1.38-1.4 increased degradation, over 1.4 damage to cpu.

I got tired of playing "Safe" with CPU's in general. Plus I had a couple back ups in case things went south. Best to torch the 2600K CPU then the 600USD 970. The only way you can overclock the memory is by the BCLK unfortunately, the 1333MHz Crucials I used will do 1750-1780 and the mem divider on the 2600K does give me the in between frequencies it is either 1600 or 1800. Plus I prefer a high bclk over multiplier overclocking, as this way of overclocking normally optimizes the entire system better. Currently the 970 is sitting @ 20 x 215 = 4.3 GHz on a R2E board. But the only way to learn is to get out and actually do it.

Honestly there are better overclockers then myself that get higher frequencies then I do. The only difference is that I tend to hold my overclock longer.

To me Overclocking is not how high you can go, Overclocking is how high you can go and then hold there.

I feel pretty much the same about cars. who care if it hits 130 if it can only cruise safely at 110. i'd rather have one that tops at 125 but can hold 115-120 for hrs. i just couldn't go burning up my gear like you do. it takes to much for me to replace it. if I ever hit the lotto tho' I'll start giving you a run for your money, both in overclocks, and burned up stuff
