on the guys site it states that plans for the production model include 2 paracutes (one on each end) and mentions that wearing one yourself will make this the safest means of air travel to date. this wasn't/isn't intended as a replacement for commuting so much as a cost effective replacement for helicopters where only one person would be flying anyway. that said I'd be riding this baby to work!

"Why capes are a bad costume choice for superheros"
one of the upgrades to the prototype is a screen over the openings for the props.

Yea I didn't expect them to leave such a thing open like that. I think this even better than floating cars idea like Star Wars or the Jetsons.

Can this actually reach a height at which you can deploy a parachute?

The article says it can theoretically go up to 10,000 feet. So I'd say that's a yes.

It's basically an ultralight class helicopter. it "should" have a hight ceiling above 10,000 ft, but since you need oxygen above that they call that the flight ceiling. It "should" have a top end of around 175 MPH. these #'s are projections based on the math, using thrust, lift and an arbitrary weight, probably that of the designer + the machine. the thing gets off the ground it goes forward and back. i'll bet it works and if I had the money to waste I'd take a sky diving course, buy a chute and one of his prototypes (he will build you one if you want) and test the full capabilities for him. i can do it without worrying about it crashing into someone's house if I have to bail, i got the everglades less than 2 miles from where I live. and i'll bet PP has a whole lot of empty somewhere near him also being in texas.

I will ride it. How many feet does it take a parachute to open?
