    Yes it was, and after doing a re-partion, formatting, and then ghosting the finished "drive 2" back onto the original drive, it is going home, and I get to keep my spare drive. "and a good time was had by all..."

    Sure it won't crap out again during the install of just about anything then? I'd suggest to wait a while before formatting your spare drive..

    Had that thought my self. It's on the shelf waiting.
    When he first had the problem He was installing AVG fre edition and the system did that. during the frist attempts to reload every thing after the Gateway recovery (fresh from factory type) any thing at all caused it. Now it has the driver updates, windows updates, media player update, Ie 8, AVG, Plus for XP, and everything else I had on hand to try. so far so good.
