    Default Widescreen Gaming

Convo taken from 3dmark 11 thread.

I used to want it for racing games but after looking at the screens...eh. Doesn't look as good as I thought it would. The bezels throw me off too.

If ya line it up right you could just pretend it's the A-pillars in a real car

Till they start making frameless montiors this will continue to be a problem.

Really you dont even notice them when in game, because you pay more attention to the center monitor then you do the sides. The sides just give you that added visual you did not have. Think of it like a car, even though you have side posts you do not really notice them because you are not really paying attention to them.

I will agree that they do get in the way on the desktop when i span a program or browser across all three screens. But I have adapted, by making my browsers/programs the same size as a single monitor. This way i can have a browser up on one screen, word perfect on another, and something else on the third and never have to minimize my programs, and I can keep em full screen size.

Actually those posts on real cars get really annoying too. I've played on triple monitors before but it was FPS. I didn't much care for it but had high hopes for racing with 3 screens. Just by looking at it I can tell it wont be worth my money.

I tend to agree with Dragon. Pillars on real cars are practically a non issue. Most of the time your vision is focused through the windshield, and when it's not you swing to the side to look at the mirror or out the side window. The pillar does block a tad of your view, but only a slight amount of your peripheral. If we were to constantly look the direction of the pillars where I live, we'd be rear ending cars all the time in the heavy stop and go traffic we have.

That said, the problem with the cockpit view in many games I find is that they distort the locations of the pillars to give a better side view, then they start blocking even part of the forward view too much.

I have to see them every time I turn my head when I go to turn. They are a real pain in the ass to put it lightly. On the 3 screens thing though, that has nothing to do with why I know I wont like it. It looks completely unrealistic.

I was only using it as a reference that's all. But I will have to agree I would love to see bezel less monitors or extremely thin bezels on monitors

I think I saw somewhere that Samsung was working on a frame less as well as the Transparent tech.

OLED is what Samsung puts in their phones. I have OLED in my Epic 4G. I am talking about their transparent TV and frameless tech. Unless they scrapped it and I didn't know.

I remember awhile back...a year or so maybe they were able to display television on a sheet of clear plastic that looked like it rolled up like a roll of foil. Dunno what happened to that.
