    Default Memory problems, AGAIN.

Today the memory I ordered for my laptop arrived. 4GB pc2-6400 CL4 from kingston. Just pop it in and have a nice day you say? Wrong!
I installed the sticks and whenever I try to boot I get BSODS. To be more precise, i get a stop error: pfn_list_corrupt (0x0000004E). A quick look-up revealed no surprise. Memory issues.
Putting my one working stick from the old set back in got it working again from the start, so sure enough the problem is the new memory. Anyone an idea as how to solve this? I tried flashing the latest bios, but that didn't seem to make a difference.
That being said, I hate laptop bios's. Besides checking the time of day you can do just about nothing.

Some specs: Said laptop is a hp pavilion dv6599.
    chipset: PM965
    southbridge: ICH8-ME
    Bios: F.5A
    CPU: intel T7300

    Standard memory is 2*1Gb pc2-5300. (ddr2-667)

My guess would be that somehow the memory doesn't revert to the slower speed? Or would it be possible the board can't handle the low timings? It really craps me out that I can't fiddle with these settings myself.

the motherboard should adjust itself regarding the memory timings/frequencies. At best the HP should revert to either its default memory timings or run the new memory at rated capacity. Sounds like memory bad, or compatibility issue. RMA set and call Kingston up to see what they think, they a bunch of helpful peeps up there.

Well I contacted kingston about the situation. Turns out they don't support these modules on just about anything. To quote the rep: "Memory modules with a part number beginning with KHX are generic parts. As they are not tested on any motherboard, we cannot guarantee compatibility of these modules in a specific system or motherboard."
(I'll assume KHX stands for kinston hyper-x, which these modules are..)

Anyhow, seems they have a KHT line which specifically supports hp. Seems to me like all this is just one big money making scheme though. Kind of retarded their top of the line memory fails there.. I really do wonder who they sell those kits to then? Anything else so-dimm sticks fit in? And it's not like you can easily build your own laptop..

Guess I'm off to buy a new set then.
