Six years have passed since Battlefield 2 was released for the PC. Today we take a look at its successor, Battlefield 3, and determine whether it has truly surpassed its predecessor.

There is a well polished patch coming out this week that should get rid of the green flicker some get ,, And other polished updates will be in the patch..

PS I want your x79 setup

Finally some info on the upcoming bf3 patch.

The DICE team are hard at work supporting Battlefield 3. To date, we have implemented several server updates to improve stability and performance. Next week we are publishing a significant Battlefield 3 client update for the PC. Console patches take a bit longer due to the certification requirements for console content, but it will follow shortly after the PC update.

So what’s in the PC patch? You’ll see improved polish, stability, weapons balancing, squad control functionality, user interface enhancements, and several feature enhancements that address feedback the community has provided to date – plus we’re removing the so called “negative mouse acceleration” that some of you have experienced.

Regarding cheating and boosting, we continue to analyze data to identify and hold accountable (ban, wipe stats) players that cheat or boost. We’ve received questions about what to do when faced with unsportsmanlike conduct in Battlefield 3 – the best course of action is to click the warning sign next to their profile name in Battlelog, or head to the EA Help Desk and report your issue. These leads will enable us to follow up on the report.

JJVal, you should try out RAMDisk. It's awesome. Make sure you use it with a Hard Drive though or else you will quickly kill your SSD, but Hard Drive will slow down loading and saving time of the RAM Disk if you use it. If you don't know what RAM Disk is, look into it. With an X79 system, it is fun to experiment around because you can easily get cheap 32GB of memory for around $200. Allocate 20GB for RAM Disk and use that with games. We'll have an article on this so stay tuned if you are interested.

Oh and you should be jealous of my system.

We should do some 3D Mark Vantage and 11 benching to see who can beat who. I'll overclock on Air, you can do whatever you want, water, etc.

Can't wait for the Patch, hopefully they will fix some Surround issues, because at the moment playing on 1.5GB cards sucks. Wish I would have thought ahead and got 3GB cards instead of 1.5GB cards.

Im not that savoy to use ramdisk ill end up blowing something apart

I well know the P67 alone will woop on my system never mind the X79 setup.
My best Vantage score was P63373 http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3056059
And 3D11 was P16115 http://3dmark.com/3dm11/973900, and really didnt put to much effort into the 3D11 run..

Well I had P63110 on my 2600K and GTX 580s. I haven't played around with my current processor too much to say how far I can get with my GTX 580s, but once I do play around with it, I'll post my scores in the 3DMark thread. Should be awesome. Hopefully! Oh, and all of that is on Air, no Water Cooling.

I can't wait to upgrade to a P9X79 WS board though, when that's done, I'm moving my Xonar card to the x79 system.

In games the higher clocked Sandy Bridge will take the cake. In 3dmark the X79 should win hands down because it can clock higher than the 980. I'm kind of disappointed in SB-E as the single threaded performance seems a tad less than SB clock for clock. Then again as I was saying before, the platform isn't gamer oriented at all. I really wanted a 3930k but I think I'll take a 5ghz clocked 2700k instead.

On the subject of RAMdisk....they are amazing. I just wish I had more RAM to install games to it.

RAM is so cheap now though, I picked up a 32GB 1600MHz memory kit for around $199 on newegg a while ago. Its great for games like Skyrim especially if you do heavy modding because you need to load all those mods and textures and whatever when you go from level to level, and RAM Disk helps to really speed things up.

If I had 30 bucks to spare I would have bought the 8GB kit I saw at Newegg. With an SSD though, Skyrim with mods loads fast anyways.

Not as fast as RAM Disk. I have about 1GB worth of Texture mods, and lots of them. Performance difference is minimal, but RAMDisks also help prevent small micro lags.

I have over 1GB of texture mods alone with STEP lol. If you do all the tweaks and performance enhancements you shouldn't have any problems at all even with a HDD. I wanted to install Skyrim to a RAMDisk but glad I didn't because I didn't realize so many mods would come out so quick.
