    They should have known there could be the possibility of this happening when you have pirated stuff on your site.

    There is a ton, and probably even more that is being hidden. Basically, Megaupload was about to launch a service that would put the huge record companies out of business. It is quite obvious this is the real reason why they were taken down, and not a site like TPB where the guys aren't even going to jail and the site is still up yet gets so much publicity.
