OC an i5-2500k on an Asus p8Z68 v-pro

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a good guide or recommendation for overclocking an i5-2500k on an Asus p8Z68 v-pro?
I tried it once, but it wasnt very stable, so it crashed a lot and I had to reapply defaults.
Does anyone have experience in overclocking the 2500k? or the P8z68 v-pro? I would really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum comtechy.

While this is not quite an overclocking guide step-by-step, it should give you a much better understanding of how the processor and motherboard work together and which settings to play around with. Do remember that settings are different on every processor and motherboard, so you might not be able to run a stable system at the settings we have found our system to run stable on. The Overclocking overview is under the closer look part of the review. It is for the 2600K and the 2500K processors.

Luckily your CPU is unlocked so you can just adjust the CPU multiplier for a basic OC.
What was your max stable OC you were able to run? And with what settings?

I have been messing around with this board using a 2600k for over a month now. I posted earlier about an issue OCing using the AI and my 670.
You have probably done this already but situate your system in such a way as you are able to see the MOBO and the LED’s located by the CPU, Memory and the Video Card. If you use the AI, these lights will help you diagnose any issues IF the system hangs. Mine can’t get past the Video Card OC right now.
The Egg video that peti1212 linked is really pretty good. One thing to note in the video: After the initial OC during the stress test, a small temp warning pops up in the bottom right corner of the screen. My original OC’s (using a 460 video card) produced temps above 74c during video editing sessions. The max temp I hit showed 81c. My chip is water cooled. Being a cheap coward, I reset everything to standard and let the OC go until I changed out the video card.
Disregarding the new issue I am facing, my gut feeling is your CPU may be overheating a bit and/or your memory can’t maintain the OC. Is it crashing during regular use or at high stress points such as video editing or F@H? What are your voltages and speeds?

have you updated the bios to the latest version?
what clocks and temperatures are you having?
I also suggest doing the overclock in the bios, not with the AI suite so you can play around with voltage, offsets and so on.
