I finally have a working PC !!
Hey guys, just joined forums today! Thought I'd share a story of a problem PC.. o.O
So, my uncle gave me his gaming rig because he couldn't get it to be stable (crashes, BSODs, etc.)
16gb of mushkin ram
1TB HDD
radeon HD 6870 2GB
AMD Phenom IIx6 @ 3.2ghz
Gigabyte 970A-UD3
Corsair 750W PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate edition 64bit (legit OS, not bootleg :D)
Oh, I've had this PC with issues every day for about 5 months now... Usually 1 or 2 BSODs a day, I could play SC, crysis etc.. The bsods would be random throughout the day.
-First, I tried reinstalling windows.
-Updated drivers
-Used memtest on individual sticks of ram
-Checked compatability between mobo and ram
-Updated chipset drivers from gigabytes site
-Several graphics driver reinstalls, using CCleaner, safemode etc. to make sure all old files were completely
removed
-Bought a SSD (I thought my HDD was bad)
-Borrowed ram from a friend (maybe my ram was bad?)
At this point, I had given up and was content with a BSOD or two a day, after all I got this PC for free!
After months of dealing with random crashes on SC (unexpected error) and BSODS AND display driver crashes a lightbulb appeared over my head!
I flashed my bios to the latest beta, the warning on the site said "Only use this if you are having problems with windows", or something along that line.
I WAS LIKE YES I AM HAVING PROBLEMS!! NOTHING MAKES SENSE!!!
So, flashed my BIOS and everything works smooth as butter, have a SSD and HDD hooked up and my 16gb of ram again, no 0x050 BSODS :D or 0x0a1.. whatever! they're gone now!
I really can't believe I didn't think of this solution earlier
