ASUS has been all the rage with its Z77 models, from*the*most basic to the more extravagant ROG series. Today we look at the AMD side of things with the new revision of the Crosshair V Formula.
Introduction – ASUS Crosshair *V Formula-Z

Hmmm.. speaking of Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z..
I heard somebody in my town who bought a brand new Crosshair V Formula in the US and had it shipped here.
Tried it, mounted a bulldozer processor then poof!! BIOS chip got fried.. LOL
He cannot RMA and returning it back to the US is expensive. He just trashed it X__X
Then I researched about it, one is suppose to update BIOS first before plugging a bulldozer or piledriver processor which he totally forgot..
But why is that? I hear a lot of instances where somebody mounted an ivy bridge processor in an old P67 or Z68 which didn't work but it didn't fry the BIOS chip. So why did that happen in the 990FX mobo?
I really find it weird..WordPress Website Builder - PC Hardware Enthusiast - Content Writer - Economist - Foodie

Damn. That's so sad. What a waste !!! I can't believe that. Have you tried reviving the board? Or giving it to the technicians to repair? That's a very expensive board to waste !!
And ur right about the Intel boards. They don't fry up the chip. They just don't boot. Or accept the processor till a BIOS update

Geez. I wish I had $230 to throw around (plus shipping, I imagine).
There's gotta be some way to fix it. Too bad he didn't get one of those bios-swappable boards (although I think those are mostly intel).
As for the review...
It's certainly new and certainly different, but I don't know if revolutionary is quite the right word for it.Windows 8, the new revolutionary OS from Microsoft.Last edited by TehYoyo; 11-26-2012 at 11:07 PM.

@ryan
Yep totally trashed it. Sold it as scrap parts like around $50
@tehyoyo
It was repairable, you need to buy a new bios chip and solder it
Here's the forum thread but I doubt you guys can understand what we are saying LOL

It just weird that plugging a FX-8120 would fry the bios chip just because of incompatibility. I mean intel board doesn't do that when ivy processors are plugged in unsupporting chipsets..WordPress Website Builder - PC Hardware Enthusiast - Content Writer - Economist - Foodie

The owner was looking for a bios chip but it was only available in the US. He did talk to ASUS representatives and said he needs to send it to the dealer and have the dealer RMA it. Also, he was missing some important documents such as the RECEIPT LOL.. so yah.. it was trashed..
