AMD to enter SSD market

The SSD market is perhaps the most competitive computer component market today with more than a dozen manufacturers making their own line. AMD might soon be joining them and make their own RADEON-branded SSD line with the aim to address their "ALL-AMD" vision in the future.

I kinda would like to see AMD go through with this and do relatively well at this. I don't see how this would be much more different than manufacturing RAM.

I wonder if it would it be cheaper for them to purchase a company or start their own manufacturing plant?

IMO, it'd be cheaper for them to start a partnership with a company like they did with their AMD series RAM with XFX, Patriot, and VisionTEK.

It can't fail. In one way or another it will always be around to provide CPUs and GPUs. Why? Because Intel and NVIDIA will be a monopoly for the markets in their respective forms and AMD will need to be around to prevent the monopolization of CPUs and GPUs from happening.

I think he meant as far as SSD's. But I don't agree with that either, the average consumer who bought an AMD based machine looking for an SSD will probably go with the AMD because they know them. Brand recognition 101.

And as far as pre-builts, its way easier to negotiate a contract with one company for two items rather than two separate companies. So the ability to streamline will entice companies into buying AMD SSD's.

Well, in terms of the SSD thing, yea. That *could* be a failure. We won't know yet though until that gets going though.

They are still on the downfall and companies like Via still exist. If investment is made in Via or a similar company then AMD is most likely on the verge of failing. I mean, they already sold their Austin HQ and are now leasing it back. That is the sign of a broke company.
