Yeah, it's in there, but this thread is a mess so I understand. No audio works, with or without the cars, except for the USB audio through those special dupey little speakers. onboard audio does not work. I have not tried an audio PCI card that is compatible with my board, but I don't want to either (I want my board to work I don't need more audio options yet).

Also very common that the manufacturer downloads an update and causes a non-listed conflict. My old PC with Core 2 Duo had a realtek network driver update that wouldn't allow connectivity but everything listed fine. I just had to remove the drivers from the PC after a rollback and then reboot.

I would have suggested IRQ conflicts as well, so hopefully when you plug it in that isn't the case.
I tried a rollback, but had difficulties of course, I think due to AVG protection. Disabled that and got the rollback to work FINALLY, but I don't trust it because I had to try about 6 times.

I'll try that card now, see if the IRQ conflicts, and then think about reinstalling windows once I've taken care of some business for the evening. then I'll set up another computer to use while mine is...sick.

When doing the rollback, ensure you're deleting files. As you can rollback or have that option, there's a plus. Disable AVG to rollback? Uninstall AVG might be a good idea, process the rollback afterward.

Also go to ASuS website and if there's software driver downloads. If still persists after rollback, remove the audio hardware from Device Manager, reboot and allow Windows to Detect new hardware. If it asks to update use your downloaded drivers.

Still rather confused by this. So the onboard audio doesn't work with the card not installed?

In other words, I'm asking if you have taken the serial PCI card back out to see if your audio going through the onboard ports (not USB speakers) works or not.

I had trouble ensuring if the files were deleted because as soon as I reboot, they install themselves again automatically. I will probably try removing AVG and doing the process again. I have however as you said removed audio hardware from device manager and upon reboot they always install again.

Sorry I spelled "cards" wrong; the audio does not work, no matter what I do. The on-board audio does not work with the card not installed.

But it worked before? Super odd. If it does not work with the card not in, then it isn't an IRQ conflict. If you've already tried the drivers then it wouldn't be that either. Last thing to try is a fresh install and if that doesn't work then I would RMA the board as it could be a hardware fault.

Just installed the card again, drivers weren't found but if I install them the card seems to work (mouse didn't function correctly but I have a feeling it might just be the mouse, it just lit up, so power, but no communication). I'm going to pull the card again and do a full re-install of windows.

I don't know what IRQ's are but, the card "PCI Multiport Serial controller" is listed alone on resource 11, and the only audio think I see "High Definition Audio Controller" is on resource 22, also alone.

Looks like I have a long night of backup and re-install crap. I'm super bummed because I use CS3 and that was the WORST trying to get it to function correctly. This will slow me down so much...

Everything is already messed with the rollback anyway though, even chrome is a little odd because extensions are corrupt or halfway installed now. perhaps my drivers are, too, despite the delete and reinstall... perhaps they could have left bad trace code that's screwing things up?

Yep, all fine and dandy, put in the damn card, then realized audio wasn't working when I went online. that's pretty much where it's at now.

Thanks again for continued help in this. I do appreciate your time.

I'm in linux now, a USB Ubuntu boot.

I'm experiencing the same white-noise high pitch and faint frequency in my headphones, and no signal is waking up my speakers. the high pitch sound starts happening as soon as the OS begins to load, it seems.

Doesn't look good...unless there's an inherent driver issue with my onboard audio and linux...looks, and sounds, like my onboard audio is dead. I tried linux earlier but then found lots of google results with "no sound ubuntu"....so I wasn't sure.

I'll peck around a little and see if I can get anything out of it.

    ---EDIT:

nope...using alsamixer i've turned everything I can up, disabled auto mute, nothing. USB speakers don't work either, but I suspect that's a driver issue on logitech's part...probably.

I might try another linux I suppose, kubuntu or maybe a more different distrubution (whatever will USB boot), but I'm running out of options I think.

Yikes! Not to throw good money after bad, but I wonder if a serial to usb cable would work?

all I care now is that my motherboard works, that mouse isn't really of concern anymore.

Did you manage to resolve the issue? Did you also look at flashing the Bios software/firmware???

I haven't resolved it yet but I did notice that the sound in the headphones changes or goes away when I unplug the rear audio, and I'm hoping that maybe just maybe, the speakers I used were conflicting with a ground or something in the audio system, or at least causing a problem. Still no sound from either, but I didn't expect the sound up front to change from a whine to silent. made sure it was on, too.

I'm going to last-resort and doing a destructive windows install soon, i have work to do so it will have to wait a day or two (I'm a photographer in the process of making a business for myself, I need this thing...)

I have tried flashing the bios, reverting back to stock and flashing it again, nothing.
