    Hey

Just dropped in to ask if any of you guys would know what's Wong with my system. It's a new velocity micro pc. All the cables and everything are zip tied. I didn't mess around with anything inside the case.

Before Christmas I had this issue that suddenly my would start giving problems on first boot. Then slowly the theme disappeared. And the desktop wouldn't respond. Then copy speed from partition to partition was around less than 1mb of speed. I reinstalled the system. It was working perfect once again. And once again now it's gone back to same. Only this time I can't install windows again using the oem recovery disk. It keeps giving me an error. And I formated my partition.

The cd is scratch less. I even tried using the usb tool to write the installer from the disk to usb. And still the same error.

I currently don't have the time to play around with it. I've got to study for my exam. It's day after. So maybe ill be able to get working on it around the end of this month.

Try making a Windows 7 flash drive instead and try that. I would also check to see if the drive is still good and do a low level format on it. The slowness sounds like a nasty virus.

You could try unplugging and replugging the SATA cable/changing SATA cable, I've had that be an issue before.

Will try the sata cable trick. But I got my exam tomorrow. I don't have the heart to see my computer not work and study at the same time.

I can't format all the partitions as my data is on one of the partitions. The oem cables are zip tied to the chassis so it's not easy to pull out cables. They are exact fits.

I'm not sure if it's a virus. Because the 2nd time I installed Windows it was fine. Until it was BSOD'ing after the Windows boot screen. I couldn't boot to safe mode to check the bsod error code.

After my exams I'll try to do a bit of cleaning for dust between the cables also.

If you catch my drift. Reinstalled it, it went away because it was fresh.

Cables are easy, just cut the zip ties so you can move the cables. It wont harm anything, and if you want them to be zip tied later just buy a pack of them from Lowes. They are cheap.

You don't have to format each partition to reinstall Windows. All you need to do is format the partition Windows is on. If some data is on there and you can't get it back then that's that anyways. Only other thing to do is take your drive out and stick it in another PC, virus/malware/spyware scan it, backup your data, then completely start from fresh.

I'm starting to wonder if this is actually a wide spread virus because I have had 3 different people come to me with the same problem in the past week.

Yeah I was wondering the same too if there was anyone else facing this issue. I don't have another system to check it because I donated all my old hardware to a friend. But I'll try to work something out. I thought maybe something might have been wrong with he MBR. But now I'm beginning to think it could be the cables. At first I thought it was windows update. But this time It only installed a few updates. And after a week it went again. I don't download anything there. I only play games on steam. I hadn't even installed my photo shop softwares lol..

Almost sounds like a rootkit virus. Try running TDSSKiller. Worth a shot.

Unlikely since you said you only played games, but have you had anything pop up saying Windows Security Plus 13 or anything like it?

How big is your HDD? I had an SSD do something like this last year: Would load, but could not update SP1. Then it would load intermittently then it just died.

Smart isn't always 100% accurate and I leave it disabled for that reason. Have Windows do a checkdisk scan on it. Let it do the reboot for the full scan.
