    Default TWC and Zoom

Does anybody here have experience trying out new modems with Time Warner? All I want is a good DOCSIS 3 modem when I get my TWC set back up. Some looking around shows that TWC can be *****es about it.

I've done a lot of looking the past 2 to 3 months on modems and it seems Comcast and TWC are very different about the use of your own modem.

I know it says that, but one review says no use on TWC and some Google also says the same thing. Fox suggested his Surfboard but all I can find is the 6121 available locally.

Anybody have experience with that? Seems the only difference is the 6121 has 4 downstreams vs the 8 on the 6141.

each cabel company has an approved modem list you can look up if a modem is not there it most likely wont work

some time ago TWC top of the line modems were the motorola sb6141 and some wifi model which was not so good.

some modems are hard to find because the companies want you renting them, mine was only available through 1-2 sellers on amazon.

It appears Walmart carries the 6580 for a little more AND after Google I found their list.

    http://www.timewarnercable.com/en/re...our-modem.html

All 3 Surfboard modems listed here are on there including the Zoom. I think I'm going to get the SBG6580 and if it works good wirelessly I'll sell my E4200.

yea the 6580 as I recall is the one with the integrated wifi no? folks were having issues with it and many were recommending having a standalone router instead of an integrated one.

The sb6141 is a good one if not the best and alot of the features are overkill to what is offered and serve more like a future proof guarantee.

Yea the 41 was rated the top modem of 2012, thing is I can only get the 21 from Walmart and it only has 4 downstreams opposed to the 8 in both the 41 and 6580.

The 6580 has 2.4 and 5GHz radios and is N. That is better than what I'm currently on so can't be that bad. Googling right now to see how technical the GUI gets. Idk why but something is telling me to make sure I get a modem with 8 downstreams. I plan on getting the 100Mb package later on and the house we want to move into has the same ISP options as here.

When i was setting up TWC, bout 7 months ago the 21 was not compatible with them, dont know if that changed. If you going to go with the 6580 then read some user feedback on amazon and other places on its performance. I just also noticed that there is a new Extreme sb6141 model out worth maybe looking into. Will 8 downstreams even be available on any cabel network?

TWC has the 21 on their list.

I have no idea about the 8 vs 4 streams. I've been trying to find that out.

seems some areas in US have 8 streams available, so a modem with that option would be a worthwhile option for ya

I bet my part has it. TWC is huge in the DFW area.

I'll get the gateway and see if I like and/if I get 8 channel bond. If not I'll return it for the 4 channel.

It's perfectly fine to get a 8 channel modem. If your provider only offers 4 atm it will still work like in my case with the 41 I get only 4 channels.

I know, but I was justifying the purchase for 8 channel and gateway capabilities. If I could retire my Linksys and make the money back I would rather do that. If not I have no problems spending less for the 4 channel if my area only has 4.
