Cool Motherboard component level repair for amateures & Mac Gyvers

Rebuilding this thread I guess. In progress.

I started up this thread to kickstart my new hobby of motherboard repair and to have a reference database for anyone who might be interested in finding out a bit more on how to do this. At this point I think I will focus more on socket 1155 as it is more mainstream and the availability of components is pretty good.

This thread will focus mostly on manual removal and soldering of BGA components.

I thought you got the old thread back LOL.
anyway!! I am still waiting for my RMAed mobo to arrive before I venture into fixing the broken pins...
I might worsen the condition of the motherboard which would be very bad.. LOL

Well I'm still in the process of setting up my workstation, got something like 13 motherboards, tested 3 (takes time as I'm stess testing it for 24h) and there was nothing wrong with them other than they needed a bios update. I have 1 that has a broken off cap and have the cap on order, 1 that just has a pin tip broken off and crooked. I got a GTX 560 for 30$ and some 775 cpus cheapo and still waiting on my junky 775 stuff to start soldering. Just alot of stuff but not alot of time :P

I got a mechanical pencil and yea I agree it does work on cpu mounted pins and perhaps on some older socket types. Working with socket 1155 which I am by most part nowadays I have found that a syringe 22G works really awesome. I'm thinking of exploring smaller sizes, and working on a mod where you use the hollow syringe over a pin stump to bridge a connection with the cpu.

Looking for some manuals on on how to test motherboard circuits with a multimeter, any suggestions?

Hmm if only you could add some glue to this

well if you dont get it working your stuck with single channel, motherboards with broken missing pins are worthless unless you are capable of doing a socket replacement by yourself and that is not an easy thing to do. 75 is way to high stay away. No manufacturer will honor rma even if it still is under warranty. Most boards I get with broken pins are <20$ I'm currently stuck with a Asrock pro gen3 that works but dimm A2 and B2 only work. For some reason people like to damage the dimm pins and pci express the most.

I dont have any good results yet with fixing broken off pins or stumps. I just got me some conductive glue I'm gonna test out in the next few days. Although your repair might be worth it, 75$ seems kinda steep for that kinda damage. Does it come with all accessories?

So I tried fixing the socket pins.. No luck.. It remained the same..
my RMAed P8Z77M-PRO is back. I'm confused whether to continue using the P8Z77-V with 2 dimm slots or the replaced P8Z77M-PRO... well, I only have 2 rams right now.. Just wondering if maybe I could get more in the future... just thinking...
