Or maybe just keep it and fix everything that's wrong with it. Buying a new car would mean payments, and that would eat into the buying power of owning a house by the end of this year or early next year. IDK anymore....

Since buying a new car means getting a better used car with no payments, for me it's always "I wonder what hidden problems this 'new' vehicle has".

Yea, I prefer the Xbox controller too except I think the new one looks stupid. Although, the d-pad on it looks like it would be great for emulators.

which is why i'd rather buy from a stealership. there, at least the car is supposed to be in perfect working condition and can be taken back for service if something goes wrong. and yes, that would mean a car payment for me which I *should* be able to afford up to a certain extent. Said "new" car though, would be something from 2008 - 2010 years though. Still "new" but not to "old" as my current cars are.

And as for the XBO controller, it's by far superior in design to ANY of the PlayStation controllers ever announced. Since the XBO controller is supposed to be on BT, I'm sure somebody out there will figure out a way to mod the controller to work on a PS4. If that's the case, then I'll buy a PS4 and an XBO controller and perform the mod. Best of both worlds right there! :D

Don't get in the mindset that dealership "new" cars don't break. That's usually the excuse people use and they are usually the ones I see whining on Facebook how their car is always in the shop.

A "new-used" car from a dealership will be under warranty still though. I'd rather have it in the shop on the dealership's dime than on mine.

That all depends on their warranty terms though. Not everything will be covered, which is part of my comment don't get in that mindset.

Pretty much all manufacturers have a minimum 36k/3yr standard warranty on all of their vehicles where if something is broken with the car, they'll fix it at no cost to you. And with consumers demanding more, most manufacturers have bumped up that warranty to 50k/5yrs and some have even moved that up to 100k/10yrs warranty on pretty much everything. Though, some have special terms where only drive train related items are 100k/10yrs and such like Chyrslier/Dodge.

So, if I get the right car, I know the car will be under some form of warranty still.

Eh that really depends on what you're buying, and who you're buying it from. Like Ford Certified Pre-Owned doesn't get as extensive of a warranty as one would think. Only the new cars are getting hefty warranties but that doesn't cover absolutely everything and even still you can't do a thing to your car or you're at risk of blowing that warranty. That includes things like oil changes, changing plugs, fluids, whatever. I've also seen dealers try to argue their way out of replacing things on warranty due to some fine print nonsense. For instance, friends Scion TC they were saying his inner lights weren't covered by warranty but they had to change his headlamps for him. They noticed he put halo rings and took them out then said they won't cover any light damage or broken lamp parts/bulbs. This was on a car with a brand new warranty, and only 10k in (happened in 2009). Warranty is all fine and dandy, but like PC parts it has its fine print and you have to be careful.

But like anything new, they can break too. Call it luck or whatever you will, but each vehicle I have owned has required only standard maintenance to be perfectly fine daily drivers. Each car I went over myself before purchase, and so far the most expensive one happened to be my Mustang at 1200 bucks. I may have repair costs in the future, may, but I won't have a car note ever. Any money spent on possible repairs (or upgrades even) I would be spending double on monthly car notes unless I got something absurdly cheap like a Kia. Even still, that's a monthly payment rather than none.

Your friend you used as an example is quite standard. Pretty much everything on a car is covered and whatever component(s) you modify have their warranty voided unless put back to stock. So, in your friend's case, he modified his headlights. Any headlight type service was out of warranty and therefore he would have to pay for any headlight services because they weren't the OEM headlights. That's pretty standard across the auto industry. Happened with my Chevy S-10 and happened with my Mazda. Heard from other people with Fords and Hondas as well.

And I am a big believer in standard maintenance. Like you, any car that is properly maintained will last easily 150k miles and more before something big going out and needing service. It's just that with me, right now at least, I'm in a situation where I have to decide what I want as I only have enough buying power for one thing, not everything.

Misunderstood me or I wasn't clear enough, they wouldn't service the interior lights before any modification. They were genuinely saying those were not under warranty. Yes, they won't service his headlamps because he modified and removed, but there was no excuse to not fixing his interior lighting before he had done anything to the car. That was what I was saying, not everything is so cut and dry and that was with a brand new vehicle. Used or pre-certified are the same way, and worse usually.

Sure that's understandable but from what I'm getting your thought process is, I can't afford these constant repairs. IMO if that's the case, how does a monthly car note fix that? Sure, they may fix whatever happens to the car but you're paying that repair money regardless. If you fix it now, it could go months without anything happening. Months you won't be paying on a new car. To be clear I'm not saying don't do it. If it's what you want to do by all means. Just that from what I'm reading it just doesn't make sense, if that makes sense, to spend money when you are basically saying you don't have it to spend.

In other news, I'm packing. Won't go into detail due to privacy issues not concerning me, but lets just say we hit 100% rock bottom. Moving in with my mom to get back on my feet, and this time do it my way.

Getting a car right now is more of a reliability factor thing over a payment thing. That's really the only reason why I'm considering a new car. And really, what it comes down to, is the fact that I do not have the ability to properly work on my cars when I need to work on my cars - IE, I don't have a garage and a full set of tools. I do have buying power for a new(er) car, but I don't have the buying power for everything I want right now. Which leaves me at a cross-roads of either getting a house or getting a car. However, I see getting a house as the much better investment.

I want both, but I know I can't have both.

Sucks about what's going on right now. Hopefully moving in with your mom will get you back where you want to be quickly.

There is a silver lining to everything though. I can work on my car down there lol. I also have plans for getting the 67 running. Shouldn't cost but 20 or so bucks to at least fire up that V8. A welcoming sound of my dad after all the hardship is what I need. Plus me time. My hands, and an engine. OH and get any job I can grab makes for a nice change of pace.
