    Default Intel e5400 vs Pentium 4 630

I spent a good portion of yesterday trying to find comparisons and / or benchmarks of the two CPUs but was unable to find anything outside of a CPU World comparison. I have this CPU at home and have been unable to sell it so I want to see how much better it performs to the currently being used P4 630.

    Anybody have any ideas?

The e5400 is much better. It's based on Core 2 arch, dual core, runs cooler, and higher IPC.

I know it's better. I stated that in my OP. I'm asking how much better. I was trying to find benchmarks comparing the two but was unable to find any.

    Like I said, much better.

    Faster P4 vs slower e5300.

    Awesome! Thanks PP!

Now, the trick is to find out if the motherboard will support the CPU!

most socket 775 board should support e5300 provided that it has the latest bios.

Hopefully my mom's system falls under the "most 775 boards" segment, lol.

Actually, that's limited to boards that support the 45nm chips. The e5400 is Wolfdale so any board that supports the e8400 will support it.
