OCZ Technology to Showcase Next-Generation Enterprise Storage Solutions at CeBIT 2013

OCZ will showcase various products target toward the enterprise market at CeBIT 2013. Among the product is the the next generation ZD-XL SQL Accelerator, a hardware and software combination solution target toward enterprise market. The ZD-XL Accelerator “addresses SQL Server database applications to not only ensure that the data for this implementation is right, relevant, and readily available on SSD flash when the SQL Server needs it, but also that the data is accessed with the highest possible I/O performance.“ In addition, OCZ will also demonstrate the upcoming VXL 1.3 Virtualization Software and LXL Acceleration Software with OCZ’s Direct Pass Caching technology.

Even more exciting is the next generation PCI Express based SSD will also on display. The upcoming PCIe SSD will use the same Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller found on the Vector series SSD that offers excellent performance across different workloads based on our tests. It is the fastest controller that is available on the market and we are excited to see it being used on PCIe interface so it won’t be bottlenecked by the 6 Gbps SATA interface. The new drive will support four second generation PCIe 2.0 for lower latency to data, faster file transfer, and greater storage option availability.

GIGABYTE Launch Thin Mini-ITX Series Motherboards

Gigabyte is getting into the mini-ITX motherboard with not one but two new Intel board, the H77TN and the B75TN. Both motherboards feature low profile design that is 43% thinner than traditional mini-ITX motherboards or just 2.5cm in height. The boards will also feature flexible power input and IO expansion specification. This means that it can be powered externally as oppose to using a standard 24-pin ATX power connector. The boards are designed for the growing market of of All-In-One (AIO) PC.

The H77TN and B75TN use Intel H77 and B75 chipset respectively and will support 2nd generation and 3rd generation Intel Core processors. They will have PCI Express x4 slot for expansion, mSATA and mini PCIe are also found on the boards. The boards will also come with three display outputs: HDMI, DisplayPort, LVDS ribbon connector. Since it is designed for AIO PC, it uses SODIMM as oppose to traditional DIMM for memory. Two slots are available on the boards. In addition to the mSATA, there are four more SATA ports for storage. Two of them on are SATA 6Gbps on the H77TN but only one of the four ports on the B75TN is SATA 6Gbps. Of course, the board will also comes with array of typical ports like USB 2.0, USB 3.0, audio port, and Gigabit ethernet.

OCZ Technology Delivers Vertex 3 with 20 Nanometer Flash

OCZ has launched a new Vertex 3 20 SSD that pairs the LSI SandForce SF-2200 controller  with 20 nm flash. The Vertex 3 was launched back in 2011 that paired the SandForce SF-2281 controller with 25nm Micro NAND. Despite the fact that the drive is a bit old, it is still one of the fast drive even in today’s market thanks to the SATA 6 Gbps support and the excellent SandForce controller with its DuraWrite and RAISE technology.

The new drive will come in storage capacity of 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB. It will have a rated maximum read up to 550MB/s, write up to 520MB/s, random write up to 65K IOPS, and random read up to 35K IOPS. Compare this to the 25 nm NAND, we can see that while the sequential read and write speed is comparable, the random write is upped from 60K IOPS but the random read is down from the 85K that is on the 25 nm drive.

No pricing information is available but we expect it to be comparable to other drive with similar spec. The drive is backed by the same 3 year warranty as the original Vertex 3.

According to an interview with a Japanese gaming site, 4Gamer, AMD graphics product manager Devon Nekechuk has revealed that “AMD’s desktop GPU will continue to 7000 Series Radeon HD.” This means that we are going to continue to see the current Radeon 7900 GHz Edition to be the flagship from AMD, at least until Q4 of 2014 according to a slide shown on the site showing current gen of GPUs to be stable throughout 2013. There will be a new HD 8000 released sometimes this year but the card is just a re-branding of HD 7000 Series designed for OEM market like Dell or HP.

During CES 2013, AMD has revealed its roadmap for 2013 that includes the next generation desktop GPU, the Sea Islands, and mobile GPU, the Solar System. It is unclear now if the roadmap has been changed or pushed back till the last quarter of 2013 or till 2014.

While we may not expect new desktop GPU from AMD soon, AMD is not going to be completely silent. There are reports that indicating the next generation PlayStation and Xbox 720 console will be powered by AMD GPU.

Stay tuned as we bring you more detail on the development.
