OCZ ARC 100 240GB

arc100

Introduction As expected, with OCZ now owned by Toshiba, OCZ would be using the in-house brew Toshiba NAND for their SSDs as oppose to Intel/Micron. OCZ has transitioned their mainstream Vertex SSDs to the Toshiba NAND already. And the latest budget line of SSD, the ARC 100, continues the trend of using all in-house made components of pairing the Indilinx controller with the Toshiba NAND. The ARC 100 is OCZ budget line of SSD that is aimed for those who is looking to upgrade their system from old, slow mechanical drive or those are already got an aging SSD that needs an upgrade. Much like what Crucial has done with the MX100 where it paired the same controller as the performance drive (in this case the M500) with a newer NAND in order to cut down the production cost for the budget drive, the ARC 100 takes OCZ’s own Indilinx Barefoot III controller and ... OCZ Launches ARC 100 Value SSD

OCZ_ARC_100

With the SSDs saturating the SATA III bandwidth, we are starting to see companies releasing drives that offers excellent price per gigabyte ratio in order to attract more sales. OCZ has entered the market of value SSD with the latest ARC 100 drive that pair the existing Indilinx Barefoot III M 10 controller with the Toshiba A19nm flash. OCZ Vertex 450 2x128GB RAID

OCZ_Vertex_450

Looking at the model number of the OCZ Vertex 450 and you would be thinking that the product falls in the same family as the Vertex 4. However, the only thing that the Vertex 450 shares with the Vertex 4 is only the branding of Vertex. Other than that, the Vertex 450 actually is more closely related to the performance Vector series SSD that OCZ has launched late last year. The Vertex 450 uses the same Barefoot III (part number IDX500M10-BC) controller as the Vector but instead of using 25nm NAND MLC chip as the Vector, the Vertex 450 is paired with the die-shrunk 20nm MLC NAND. The shift to 20nm fabrication process is inevitable in order to save costs and to increase the NAND capacity so that manufacturers could pack more bits per die. This not only drives the price of the SSD down but also helps to increase the ... Read More »

OCZ Solid 2

We compare the latest budget SSD from OCZ, the Solid 2, that is based on the Indilinx Barefoot controller to the mechanical hard drives in RAID configuration. Let’s find out if it is time to dump that big and heavy 3.5” hard drives for a smaller and faster SSD. No related posts. Read More »
