Windows 8.1 (Blue) Will Be Free

It is official now that the upcoming Windows Blue will be called Windows 8.1. In addition, according to the official Windows Blogging site, the upcoming version of Windows will be free update to Windows 8. No offical time has been announced as to when the final update will be available but the public preview is expected to be out starting June 26.

There are rumors floating around the web saying that the next version of Windows will bring back the old-school Start Menu button and the ability to boot directly to the desktop as oppose to the Metro UI. In addition, no official information on as to what other enhancements or new software will be included with the Windows 8.1.  Nonetheless, it is good to see at least MS will not ask for more cash for the update.

Windows 8 has received some mixed feedback. Some users have returned to the Windows 7 because of the radical change in the UI. Maybe offering the option to switch between the two interface would appease some users and help people to ease into the new OS.
