QNAP Releases Qfix v1.0.2 to Fix Shellshock for Non-QTS 4.1.1 Build 1003 Users

QNAP has released Qfix v1.0.2 that is aimed to fix Shellshock for those who are still using the older firmware. QNAP adds the fix to the latest QTS 4.1.1 build 1003 firmware which the company has urged users who owns one of the NAS from QNAP to hit the update button to get the firmware to update. However, if you still are using old firmware and are not yet ready to upgrade to the new firmware, then you should check the download section from QNP (link) to grab the fix so you can apply it manually. You would just need to select the model of your NAS and download the appropriate file and use the firmware update on your NAS to apply them. Thecus launched W Series NAS with Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essentials

Thecus has released new line of NAS that uses Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 Essential. The new NAS features data protection, remote access, cloud service with support for Office 365 integration and Microsoft Azure backup. Based on the Microsoft OS means that it comes with features that is found on the latest OS from the software giant such as File History, Active Directory Domain Service, and data deduplication, It also features built-in automatic client backup and supports up 36 languages. Synology announces the DS415play, a 4-bay NAS for media-junkies

Synology has announced the DS415play. This is a 4-bay version of the DS214play giving anyone who has a big media-collection even more space to store it on. The idea with the “play”-versions of their NAS:es is that they are geared towards working as best as possible as a media hub offering to stream multiple HD-streams to various devices without breaking a sweat. The trick is that they come with hardware transcoding of various media formats making sure the CPU is not the limiting factor. Synology announces the DS414j, first entry-level Synology NAS with dual-core

Synology has a nice wide product portfolio with products for all sorts of customers. Their j-level NAS’s are the entry-level products aimed at homes and small businesses while the non-j and the +-products are for more professional home- and business users. Today Synology is announcing and releasing the new Synology DS414j-NAS which for the first time for a Synology j-NAS comes with a dual-core CPU (MindSpeed Comcerto 2000 running at 1.2 GHz) meaning more raw power for all those cool features that you find on the NAS. Thecus confirms 5TB support for Thecus NAS

I’m not sure why but it seems that you never can have too much space in your NAS. Seagate entered rackmount NAS market with the new 8-bay and 4-bay 1 U rackmoutn. The rackmount will be compatible with Windows PCs and Apple’s Time Machine. The rackmount will come with a new version of the Seagate NAS OS that has integrated Wuala cloud service and business-focused apps for PC, Mac, smartphone, and tablet. As the rackmount NAS is designed for business in mind, the Wuala apps “automatically sync files and make them accessible from mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Android devices to improve empolyees’ productivity while on the go.” The 8-bay model is powered by Intel 2.3 GHz dual core processor, eight Enterprise Capacity (formally Constellation ES.3) drives, and dual Gigabit Ethernet. The N5550 Has some excellent specs on paper which happen to match our recently reviewed N4800 with the inclusion of a 5th drive bay, using Intel Cedar Trail Atom D2550 processor, 2GB of DDR3, and 1 GB of SATA DOM for the OS.
