Adobe has released Flash Player 10.1 prerelease version today. The Flash Player 10.1 is the "first runtime release of the Open Screen Project that enables uncompromised Web browsing of expressive applications, content and video across devices. With support for a broad range of mobile devices, including smartphones, netbooks, smartbooks and other Internet-connected devices."

The Flash Player 10.1 is available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux. It will feature support for hardware acceleration of video on supported Windows PCs and x86-based netbooks. Unfortunately, such feature is not yet being supported in Mac systems due to Mac OS X does not expose access to the required APIs. However, Anandtech has tested the new player with the Mac Pro and noticed a significant improvements in the performance (going from 450% to 190%).
